TRoubleshoot help please?

I just need to find out the fault here my computer keeps randomly hanging sometimes during start up others just after and sometimes 5 minutes in. I thought it was possibly my graphics card however tried it with an old graphics card that I know works and it still hangs. After that I thought possibly new ram was at fault so put the old stuff in still crashed. the os crashed with old specs but I thought it was a one off now that the new hardware is in I reinstalled the OS it seems to be a degenerative thing in that it gets worse each time now however I believe that if it's not the OS it could possibly be the harddrive on the blink thoughts?

current specs

Mobo:sabertooth x58

CPU: intel i7 920@stock

RAM: mushkin radioactive 7-9-7

GPU:asus 5850 top edition

Soundcard:m-audio 24-96

harddrive is a hamachi drive I ripped out my old packard that has only been running for 2 years roughly

Sounds like the HDD, one of mine died recently and before it died it kept hanging for around 30 secs.

Before it completely died it started making a clicking sound so keep an ear out for that because once the clicking started the next time I restarted it wouldn't work again

time for a hasty back-up lol, added note when i do a system restore it seems to fix the problem for the next start up which made me think software.

Could be software, maybe but i'd make a backup just in case. I lost all my data before i had chance

Do you have a spare psu you can try just to rule that out?,another guy had same problem recently,and it turned out to be his psu.

Only way to find out for sure is to swap things out.

sadly not, anyway to test this theory otherwise?

take it to a local pc store who may be bale to check it for you or failing that buy a cheap psu to see if its at fault,can always take it back after,and say u got wrong one.

just an update that might help anyone with the same problem in the future earlier today(4 days before college finals) the drive went clikc click click....gone! like it's final mechanical heartbeats lol. also taking my final animation with it -.-...so down the street for a new drive £40 for 200gb HDD and they wonder why people don't support local stores anymore. SATA 1 I might add

you can pick 1tb's up online for 35 quid now.

local pc store -.- whom shall remain un-named. he was lucky i was in a hurry for it, going for 2 1tb samsung 1tb spinpoint f3's now and raiding them(when i can get the money lol)
