From what I've read the 780i = the 680i but with a 3rd PCI-E lane...

Which would lead me to believe that second chip is just the extra 100 part (if you get my drift)

Yes, the 780i is pretty much recycled from the 680i. This is completely pointless just like SLI. And i say nF7+AM3 FTW.
