In preparation for my new ramsinks which i ordered from phil,i thought i'd remove my ghetto-style ones, only they were a bit stuck,so i thought i'd warm em up.This was not a bright idea, cos instead of loosening the arctic-adhesive/as5,50/50 mix,it softened the solder under the bga and next thing i know, ramsink and ramchip are in my hand still stuck together.Ripped the little bugger right off,and thats a bit beyond even my soldering skills.Still,a lesson was learnt.

1.75v and looping 3dmark was all i used to warm it up,it didn't melt the solder, but i'm sure it softened it.It don't hurt too much when you know why,i was just dumb, but the max3 thing was messing with my head.

You may be able to reattach it if you're lucky. If the solder points are still availalbe on either the ram chip or the board you might be in luck. All you'll need to do is line it up the right way, place it back on and heat it up using a heatgun or the such.... this might just make it fall back into place, if it reattaches but still get screwed graphics, might make it a little easier to RMA ;)

Sorry to hear mate are you sure there is no way of re attatchin the ram if you havent damaged the mem chip may be able to re solder it if you are not able to do it send it my way I'll have a go at it for ya :D

It's no biggie guys, gonna try to get a new card for now and see if i can't construct an rma-able card from my selection of dead 1's,but that was my clumsy mistake and not fair to pass the buck to a retailer.I have 1 that died with no apparent signs of damage and deserves to be rma'd.I have lots of dead mobo's and gfx if anyone ever needs small components to salvage dead hardware or perform mods, just drop me a p.m.
