Transporting a CPU ?

Going back to Berlin for summer as it's my little brothers birthday and I got him an Asus Z97 Deluxe, An OCUK *Reference* GTX 980 and a 4790K as he's been on a 1050T @ 3GHZ and a 6950 2GB for some years now and I think it's time for an upgrade personally.

What's the best way to transport a CPU as when I bought it from OCUK they literally sent it to me in an envelope as it's an OEM so didn't come with a fan and fancy packaging and somehow I'm not sure that's the best way XD

Any input appreciated or any links to somewhere I could buy a CPU container type thingy :)

Kambo once sent me a CPU in the original plastic contrainer, some bubblewrap around it (or cardboard, or both, just to keep the container from opening) in a bubble wrap envelope and it was all good.

Do you not have a spare plastic container lying around from one of your chips?

Sadly not.

All my chips were bought from OCUK as OEM ergo they literally all came in envelopes with a bit of bubble wrap around them.

Might see if I can get some of those proper CPU plastic containers that come with the Retail versions from ebay or Amazon.

And seeing as it's a birthday present I don't want to present it in an envelope with a bit of bubble wrap around it ^_^

Can't you install it into the motherboard though and transport it while being installed in the CPU socket on the motherboard?

Just go to a local computer shop and see if they have any laying around

Good thinking and something I forgot to mention actually.

The motherboard I've bought from a shop local to my brother so it's one less thing to transport so I only just have to go pick it up when I land.

I'd prefer to give it all to him in separate packages just to see his eyes light up as he opens them ^_^

Oh... well then you could always say... "look at the motherboard, look closely..." then if he doesn't see it... look at the heart of the motherboard and see his eyes lit up ;)

But dang it though, that's what I've would've done :)

Although you seem to have already found a solution, I usually send mine in one of those Iphone earphone cases, and then just bubble wrap them :) Never arrived to a customer damaged before. Though thats only a last resot
