Three new Speculative Execution Side Channel Attacks found on Intel processors

Think next year I'm switching over to AMD's 3700X or whatever their top end AM4 chip is called, The amount of performance sucking problems Intel seems to have lately is beyond a joke.

This is why i'm not updating my X99 motherboard, its super stable with a nice 1.2v on a 4ghz 6800k, i don't want it changing because of a security update that may or may not have an impact on how the overclock handles and for what, a security thing that most hackers dont care about if its a single system.

I reckon 0.001% of forum members here are at risk of getting hacked (on there home PC's) by any of these vulnerabilities. Microsoft and Intel should have left the microcode updates optional for the average Joe and only forced the updates on the pro range of processors (Xeon, vPro etc).

Not all Intel. It's also software too.

Most of the vulnerabilities coming out have very little effect and really either require physical access or is against a server environment that they also have additional protections in place anyway. It's not big of a deal is it seems to be

I think it's convenient that ever since AMD came back into the game that all of a sudden Intel is being "plagued" by vulnerabilities.

Are you implying that AMD is behind it? If so that would be highly unlikely
Are you trying to be inflammatory? If so not helpful.

The reason we are seeing a large number of these exploits being revealed recently is because attacks on speculative execution and pre-fetch buffers weren't even a thing until recently.

The floodgates have opened so to speak.

Mate, I'm just saying that it's not useful contribution to the discussion

The post was relevant. Pinpointing one specific sentence and then creating this side tracked conversation is not useful contribution.

I said what I said because I found it ironic and amusing. I couldn't care less if AMD was behind it or not. Every multi billion dollar business has done shady crap. It's nothing new.

Yeah, I agree the rest of the post was relevant, the vulnerabilities are hyper specific. I was just trying to get clarity on what you were trying to express

I am thinking of doing the same. It seems like every month another bunch of Spectre like vulnerabilities are found.
