Try the on-board and if it sounds bad, get the Audigy 4.

Do a comparison of both. You should be able to switch between them, I think. Keep the the one you like more. If you can't make out a difference, stick with the onboard or if you really like a feature of the creative driver or software, go with the audigy.
Basically it comes down to personal preference and usecase.

thanks sub an i dont have one myself, my mate did in his old rig. i'm just cannibalizing what i can for him as i am updating (an cleaning :/) his rig, so i will use the Audigy 4 that means i can take the front IO audio cable off.
