Thoughts on potentially build for wife

I've posted the specs on a rig for myself about ago, but due to the 6700k being hard to get asks of I've started thinking about building my wife's me rig first, and using it to hold Notre over for a couple months, then maybe I could not only get my grey Caselabs SMA8 but with any luck the new Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard and the matching GPU.

I would be using a pair of 240gb ssds in it, as well as a 1tb hdd

This is aiming for a rig for 1080p, and while I would use it for games for a couple months after that it wouldn't be doing much in the way of strenuous work.

Thoughts?

The GTX 960 is pretty weak if I'm honest. Can look at many reviews seeing that for the same money, the AMD 380 is faster nearly 100% of the time. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_radeon_r9_380_strix_review,1.html just for a reference. It has both the 380 and 960 on it. Since you are only running 1080p, the 2GB version is fine and you won't really need 4GB models, unless you want it of course. The MSI version is same price as the 960 you choose as well.

The PSU is the only thing I would opt to upgrade to a more power efficient model, but seeing as you can get that super cheap with the rebate I feel for the money it's worth it.

Also a tip on the OS. If you feel ok with it, go on ebay and buy a W7 Retail 64bit Ultimate version. It's half the price than the W10. What you can then do is install W7, download the media creation tool, upgrade to W10 doing a full resintall. Save money but still get W10.

Other than that nothing else I would change!

Thanks, I want sure about the GPUs since I never paid attention to setting lower than ati's 390 our nvidia's 970.

Most enthusiasts don't as they are more interested in higher end hardware. There's a big big gap from a 960 to a 970. That's why the 380 is faster. If you want the 960 it'll still do well, just less bang for the buck

Should be a great build either way, especially at 1080p:)

Good capable build you have there. Personally i would opt for a higher efficiency PSU, but for that price its a good option. Also the CPU cooler, have you considered any of the AIO solutions? I think the Corsair H80i GT is around that price, or a little more and go with the H100i GTX. GPU, personally i would look for something with a bit more power, but ultimately depends on what sort of games you want to be playing.
