This doesn't make any sense....

Ok why are my benchy scores higher at lower clock speeds than overclocked speeds?

Example: Score 22k+ in 3dmark03 @ stock 2.4ghz, then overclocked to 2.8ghz and can only score 21k... In Aquamark3 I went from 105k down to 96k...

What the hell would cause a decrease in performance with a 400mhz overclock? I was hoping to see a good boost in my 3dmark03 score after pumping up the speed a bit but was dissapointed as shit when it came out LOWER than @ stock speed?

Any advice would be uber 1337, thx :)

Normally you will see this behavior when you have taken an overclock to far.

The signals going thru the processor have reduced strength and effectivly get corrupted (most of the time causing a crash) but quite often just causing things to run flakey or slow.

What voltage are you running at? It might be worth increasing it a bit if its not too high already.

Also, i test the reliability of my rig with a 32M SuperPI - if it passes that, i can be almost 100% certain that my rig is stable for everything i want it to do (and it only takes less than 30 minutes unlike Prime).

I had the same problem with my P4. When i took it from 4.5ghz to 4.6ghz the results stayed the same, and when i went to 4.7ghz they reduced significantly (even tho the rig was windows stable).

Right-O... Thanks for that Jim, looks like I'll be trying to find my max gfx benchy stable OC then. At first guess I would say it's probably between 2.6-2.7ghz. I'll have a butchers tonight and see what the max OC I can have before my benches start to drop.

Thx for the insight :)
