Thick 420 vs slim 540 (SR1 420 vs Magicool 540)

I was wondering if I would see much difference between these two radiators

HWLabs Black Ice SR1 420 (triple 140) vs Magicool Slim 540 (triple 540)

I have both of these radiators and I am currently using the Magicool but me temps are HOT. 50 degrees idle on CPU (3930k 1.85v) and 40 degrees idle on GPU's (GTX 480 SLi). The CPU tops out at 80 degrees under load and the GPU's top out at 65-70 degrees under load.

1.85 volts? :O im sure the max safe voltage for 2011 is about 1.45. would seriosuly turn that voltage right down

Ok, for one, you're going to need BOTH radiators to start looping up a 3930k to two 480s. That's just ridiculous. And, as Mr Cupcake has correctly stated, 1.85v is obscene for Sandy Bridge E - you are going to kill your £450 processor.

you need to turn down that cpu before you blow it up im surprised youve managed too keep it at 50 degrees tbh

I had a herpaderp moment... I meant 1.385v sorry. I thought that one 540 Rad would have been sufficient for the loop?

The idle temp is stupidly high under water, but the load temp is...acceptable. The two 480s are going to be making your loop hot, though - I don't think the older cards underclock themselves when idle, do they? And 480s are notorious for running hot - they were designed to, but it will affect the cpu temp also.

have your tried re seating the cpu block? though as josh said, its probably the 480's heating things up. what is your loop set up like? also what case is it in?

You need more radiator surface to cool 2x480 and 3930k. I think that full size 540 and 360 or 420 will do the job.I dont like thin rads cuz you need lots of them to cool something properly, or use doom loud fans.
What case you have?

I have the Silverstone FT02 as well as a Lian Li PC V2010 which is currently being modded. I would also like to add that I am using the XSPC Raystorm and Koolance VID NX480 blocks with a Laing D5 Pump running at max (5). I would also like to add that I am using three Silverstone AP181's for the radiator and a Panaflo Ultra for exhaust.

So you guys are saying I need more radiators? Like, a HWLabs SR1 420 plus a 280? for example? I have tried re-setting the CPU block 3 times, each time removing the 'old' thermal paste, the reapplying it.

I am wondering if I should sell the 480's and get a single EVGA GTX670 FTW?

This is the CPU idling when the PC has been on for just 20 mins;

On second thoughts I will wait for the 7xx series nVidia cards just to see their price/performance compared to the 6xx series

i would sell the 480's. the 670 plays nearly any game maxed out and if you have trouble with newer games in the future then you can add a 2nd will get far better temps with a 670 aswell also the 7xx series wont be out for a while mate

Yeah, it's not like AMD where we can be expecting their new cards before Christmas; nVidia like to take their sweet time.

I think I might wait for the GTX 780, or at least the 7xx series nVidia cards. Even if there isn't a great improvement, the price of the 6xx series will go down.
