My White Ghost of Watercooling

ok, with advice on watercooling my 2 x GTX 580's. let the threadnaught begin!

Ive still not got all the parts yet, but building as I go along with each subsequent paydays. So first things first, look what arrived in the post the other day!

after unboxing it all, checking it all over & whatnot, the monsta rad wont fit in just yet. I'll need to cut out a segment where them 5¼" bays are, that little tray thing that's fouling it.

Soon as ive got it cut, i'll put up another pic, with the rad in place, & then see what room ive got, to see what will fill them bays without fouling the rad. :)

I have that bayres, mark my words it's a bit of a pain in the ass, and LEAK TEST it... one of the o-rings on mine failed, D5 leaked everywhere...

Well I was hoping to get one at some point, the ol' XSPC 750 dual bay isn't liking two blocks and a rad in one loop too well, so I need to sort it out before it dies on me.

I guess I'd have to be extra careful and perform a pressure test just to make sure no issues arise then :)

Or would I be better off with a tube res (and a complete redesign of the loop) instead?

I think my HAF X has a 140mm mounting point which could be used for a mounting bracket, but it would involve changing the whole loop order, so I wonder would that be worth the trouble just to go with a tube res instead?

Do like those water blocks as well :D
they took well over a month to get to me. First they had to make them, as no-one stocked them anymore, then it seemed like forever to get them posted out to me.

as for that dual bay res, you said the O-ring leaked. was it from the D5 pump O-ring, or the O-ring that came with the bay? & just out of interest, which pump did you use?

the resovoir is revision 2, so I think its been modified from the very early ones, which were a pain I believe.

PS: don't ask me Kosta, im a noob :P

I'm in!! I don't see the bay res you guys are talking about, but if you're referring to the leaky XSPC one, be aware that the clear acrylic versions don't have leak issues at all. Stick with those.

Well as of when your build is finished, you'll know about this res a fair bit more than I would, so it stands to reason that you might be able to enlighten me after all. I'll talk you through setting up a pressure test, just to make sure all the seals hold.

I'm interested in it because the way I've set up my system would need heavy modification in order to accept the tube res, whilst it would take this one pretty much straight away. That being said, I need to mod it anyway, to include the Maximus V in the loop.

In any case, we'll see how well this one turns out :)

Got the same rez as you but im not ready to install yet so it would be good to see how you get on with it :)

yes, ill be taking pics as many as I can. however, bear with me guys. Ive still got to get clear tubing, connectors for the tubes, coolant, thermal paste, D5 pump & fans yet.

but i'm getting there LOL!

I for one think thermal interface is a no brainer, you should be able to pick up some Phobya Liquid Metal for 3-4 quid, which aside from better performing, also makes it cheaper than AS5. Obviously you have to be careful with it, it's literally metal in a fluid state, so if you get it where you shouldn't - you're in deep sh-t, but it takes a ridiculously small amount to do a chip as it has quite low viscosity and spreads very thin. Got a 3 degree drop on a Phenom II using the stock heatsink with that, so I can't complain from it :D Soon as I drain my loop, it's going on the i7

I went with Indigo Xtreme for my CPU, but I wouldn't recommend it for the faint of heart. It's a phase-change metal alloy in a stick-on pad. The install was scary, and I've done TONS of CPU installs in my life. You have to roast the CPU without cooling for several minutes to melt the metal, which goes against every nerd instinct I have! That install took 5 years off my life!

Sounds like the more aggressive version of what I do with AS5 to get it through break in^_^

Ok, with half the month over with, next thing i need advice or help on is connections. Bitspower look really nice, albeit a tad expensive, but unsure wheres best to look for conections for my loop.

2 things im certain on, is colour. I either want white, to go with my white case & Rad, or, black chrome. But, as allways, im open to suggestions. Also on a side note, are swivel ones worth having, or are they prone to leakage? Reason i ask, is they might make installation of my tubing that little bit easier, but not at the expense of a swimming pool if its advised to stay clear :)

Post me ur links or pics of ur connectors ( or shops selling them ). Also i dont want to order a set, & im on a waiting list for manufacture or delivery like i had with my waterblocks.
