The more I think about it..

The more Phenom II makes sense...

aslong as its within a smallish margin from i7, Im ready to buy.

it may not be fastest, but early OC results look good, and the motherboards just seem soo much better.

Anyone else thinking the same thing?

always liked the AMD cpu range and used the phenom at i-series before from AMD. Be good to see what performance of the II is like i am sure it will be impressive. I guess depends of the prices as well though.

Yes it seems it would make sense so long as its considerably cheaper than i7

my i7 has overclcoked very well, I personally think it good value, just the initial costs of ram and boards make it expensive

Yeah, Im hoping the motherboards wont go up much in cost, and the cpus will be around the current price point.. If they are much more, then Ill got I7, but if performance is close, I dont see the point.

I haven't seen any benchies or even something that looks like benchies but it's stated a lot that the Phenom II is meant to oppose the C2Q series and not i7. So personally I'd guess the price is quite low (= around the current mark) but performance isn't close to i7 either.

Still, if they outperform the C2Q series and are just as expensive / a little cheaper it's going to be a good option for upgrading and new systems. Espeecially the upgrading is appealing because a lot of people already have an AM2+ motherboard.

I heard it was pretty close in games, but lacked performance in encoding and stuff.

remember its early days, I'd wait for some real overclcok results not LN2 with super volts

Yup :) I can see you in particular being annoyed if its fast :P

Some iranians oced an Phenom II 940 to around 4.2ghz on air using only a Zalman 9700NT cooler.

gameware. ir/ phenom2

nope I'd be glad to see it, some price competition and another platform worth considering....plus AMD/ATi seem to be shorth of cash, hope they do well with it...love the 4870x2 card seems ati are gaining ground slowly :D in honesty I cannot see it coming that close to i7 i'm expecting around the better end of core2quad territory, but if the price is right it will be a hit.

I hope so...but anyone could write that...

Hmm I'd be ****ed on spending €700 on something that's approached by a €400 setup (mobo+cpu+ram), but as SwaleSmith said - AMD needs the cash and it's good for the price drops.

Actually I share my complete opinion with SwaleSmith so I don't really see the point of writing this but I do anyway ...

LOL think i7 has little to fear in the way of competition from amd cpu's other than value aspect wich is what I think may win it the vote for many ...but you never know...:D

Err. Right. Not to be offensive for anything but we have a name for this you know :/

SwaleSmith's been on 2xgtx280 himself so I guess he knows the differences ;)

Lol, I bet many people though that when the gtx280 came out, yourself included, and then look what happened.

not braggin LOL have had tri sli gtx280 OCX also lol.....they dont scale well SLI is next to no slower SLI is fast but a whisker and I do mean a whisker slower than a 1x 4870x2!!!! but they apparently they quad fire like $hit, but who would need it anyway if it would scale, just bench fans???
