The HTC Vive is currently available with a £100 discount

IMO? VR is dying. Especially for the PC. I was going to do a big ass old write up, but to put it bluntly there is pretty much nothing available for VR that is worth more than 30 minutes of your time. It gets old fast (after much wowing and so on) and soon becomes a chore putting the headset and headphones etc on and not getting caught in the wires.

It was one of those things that happened quite slowly, then exploded, then people soon realised it needed more support. But once again, devs do what's easiest and makes the most money. Mostly because they are usually under a corporation cracking the whip and hurrying them to finish things for the payday.

Yeah, only thing that has gotten me slightly interested in VR, is due to the new Batman Arkham VR game, now that would be something. Other than that, it's as interesting as my farts to be honest.

Lucky's Tale is incredible. Problem is, as fantastic as it is it just made me think "Wow, I wish I could play Mario Galaxy in VR !"*

*before I say anything else yes I am aware Dolphin runs it in VR but the author has done a bunk so it's far from what you would consider working..

The problem is after you do all of the free demo stuff you start to look for paid apps and you find that they are ridiculous prices and nothing special. The demos you get free are as good as any paid app. And it gets expensive, fast. A basic game is like £40.

And wearing it is not very comfy either.

It is well worth grabbing a DK2 for £150 just for all of the free goodness you can experience, but absolutely insane to go any farther or spend any more.

Dirt Rally is amazing, but the graphical quality drops so much it gives you eye strain after about 30 mins. Again, it's "not quite there" which seems to be a recurring theme with VR.

I really have no desire to use the touch controllers either. If I wanted to pick things up and put them away I would tidy my flat in real time.

I'm tempted for games like Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen (I don't have that yet) and for IL-2/DCS/any other flight sim. Car racing should be good too.

Of course for 1200 bucks that's 100Hz ultrawide Gsync territory so I'd probably spend the money changing out my monitors. The problem I see is you really need to try the games in VR for an hour or two to see whether it gives you eye fatigue or headaches or motion sickness. There aren't enough retailers with the resources to let you do that so it's either buy it and hope it works and sell it second hand if it doesn't or just wait it out.

We don't have the same return laws here so we can't buy it, try it and say it doesn't suit and get a refund unfortunately.

Apparently Elite Dangerous is the tits. Unfortunately I have a major disliking for those sorts of games :(
