The FragTek DFI RAM Cooler

Well it looks like I'm actually going to be turning this little gadget in to a professionally done laser cut product :) I've found a place here in the states that will make these for me at $2.25 / minute on the laser cnc machine.

I'm almost done with the CAD layout and ready to send it in, I hope to have it finished tonight or tomorrow and get a response on the cost to make the first one by the end of the week! w00t w00t!

If I can keep the production costs down I'm going to make a model for the Expert and the Ultra-D "style" boards. I'm thinking about selling them as a kit w/ fans, fan guards, standoffs, and all other mounting hardware. Hell I might even have em laser etch the SX logo in to them and call it the "DFI SX RAM Cooler" or something of the sort.

Might draw some people to :anisx: eh?

More to come on this little side project!

:beerchug:

Preliminary Pricing:

Bracket + Mounting Hardware (No Fans) - $30 + Shipping*

Bracket, Hardware, Fans (Assembled) - $125 + Shipping*

*Note: These are PRELIMINARY prices only just to give you a general idea of what these will cost... Prices are subject to change at any time w/o notice.

Edit: Added v1 mockup of the unit which has been sent off for quotes by a few top laser cutting companies :)

Edit 2: Added v2.0 CAD mockup and have included preliminary pricing:)

Edit 3: Added v3.0 CAD, this will be the first model to go for prototype production! :beerchug:

v3.0

patent it dude
Worldwide patents are extremely expensive, other versions of patents aren't really worth the trouble. Nice one anyway Fraggles, best of luck with it :worship:

;) np's mate, it's nice to see initiative and drive. It'd be awesome if it turns into a great l'il money spinner for ya. You never know, you may be able to license the rights to DFI as an inclusion for overclockers

Actually someone on XS suggested that to me... Wouldn't that be a nifty addition?

wow, you're actually gonna have it professionally done?

thats gonna be fucken hawt man :yumyum:

make sure that you do both expert and vanilla versions of it - and do it outta some hefty 1/4" acrylic - you could easily pinch $30-40 for one of them with the standoffs & misc. hardware

Hellz yeah boyee :)

v2.0 is complete!

Let me know what you think... I got some great feedback from the fellaz over at XS and this is what I've come up with. Main changes are the 50mm fans on the RAM side and the addition of one more 40mm fan on the MOSFET side :) Enjoy.

v3.0 is here... It has some small tweaks to try and retain some strength in the plexi along with some fixed spacial issues I had noticed.

This will be the first one sent off for prototype production.

Update!!!

The deed is done, I've just sent payment and the v3 cad to have the first prototype produced! I should have it in my hands in 3-5 business days :) w00t!

Once I get it proofed I'm going to need the SX army to rep this product on every forum they post on. I'd really like to make my first production run a 100 piece order to get them as cheap as possible.

Oh yeah I wanted to mention that :anisx: staff members will receive one of these free (u pay postage) if u have an Expert to put it on. Just my way of saying thanks for making sx the great place that it is.
