the best mboard / memory combo

I am looking at upgrading my board , memory, processor and graphics (depending on cost) I want to get a system that will play all the latest games and not seem slow. What is the best m board to buy and which memory is best compatable with it. I have a MSI board and the memory it has in it has been inducing BSOD. When I upgrade I want to avoid this.

Suggestions please.

Hrmmm...

I'd go with a DFI SLI-DR and 1-2gb's of UTT/BH-5 or 1-2gb's of TCCD/TCC5 depending on what processor you'll be running.

A little knowlege can go a long way

Thanks for the replies so far.:D

Its all relevant on the price of the board and memory as to whats left over for the processor.

I have read some reviews and DFI seems to be a lot more clockable than Gigabyte, plus I have not read any bad reviews about DFI yet.

Memory UTT/BH 5-or TCCD/TCC5 my ignorance is now showing as I do not know what the abbreviations stand for.

Will do a quick search and start compiling prices to scare the missus with before Christmas or look for bargains in Jan sales.

Hi mate

As Frag says some TCC5 (if your going for 1gb kit) like OCZ Platinum Rev 2 would go very sweet with a DFI board.

If you want 2gb then get some Crucial Ballistix PC4000 - those little Micron chips are steaming :)

As for vid card - XFX are insane at the moment and my other favourite brand is BFG :D

question, u said to use PC4000 RAM, I'm a bit behind, but wouldnt that be DDR2? AMD chips dont support DDR2 do they? =/

plenty of good advice so far guys , thanx, just waiting for payment to arrive for some kit sold then I will be ordering. Just need to find the cheapest places to buy it from.:)

I have now ordered the Ballistix PC400 at £200, will more than likely get te DFI SL -DR board and need to know best processor to get (should have up to £200 ) to spend on processor and suitable fan.

Any suggestions guys

3 solid components you have chosen there! Should be tidy.

1 thing I have to say about Gigabyte is - I find them excellent for the cost, very reliable boards. I've used them for N-force 2, 3 and 4 and I must say I am fond of them. I'm about to start clocking on my NF3 board so we'll see how it goes on overclocking!!! It has a fan on the northbridge chip, so I hope that'll help stability. It didn't have this on my mates NF4 board though?

Thats good mate - you want a fan on the southbridge - but Gigabyte's are not renowned for OC'ing :(

The DFI sexy ass Uber 1337 board chudley has picked rulez :D

I suppose if you have the money and are looking for an overclocking mobo then yeah go for the DFI stuff but for boards for around £50-£80 I reckon Gigabyte are tidy boards.

Yep, Nice choice so far, You bought the same motherboard as me and are looking at the best cpu going in my opinion. If you do buy a Opty 146 then a good stepping is a must and the only place for those now is ebay.

I have a Opty 146 CABYE 0540 FPAW and if you can get hold of one then go for it as they are becoming rare and will hold there value, especially a retail one.

You may end up paying more for a better stepping but its all worth while.

It may be your lucky day, I have just looked on ebay and found this: :D

If i was you i would wacka bid in, I payed £190 for mine.

Sam

Looks like it may have to be a Opty 144:( all the 146's are very rare, My last chance at the moment is to try the local PC stores and see what they have, I am not building my hopes up though.

Failing an Opty I will plunge for a x64 3700+ san diego

3700+ are decent choices too I think. Seems most are at least able to hit 2.8 or so no sweat and with solid cooling and a bit more volts can go higher pretty easily. I mean, I got mine at 2.86 on stock, and I'll try to push farther with my new BT

Now have the opty 144 in the bag , just need to finance my motherboard.

It seems as though I am building this rig back to front, heh nevermind as long as it gets built thats the main thing.

Need to sell a few old items but will probably only get £150 for the base station i am selling as its a little dated now, sad thing is it runs like a dream and is the most stable I have ever had, but at least that will get me the DFI board I am after.
