Hey guys and gals! It's finally time.. With the help of this community's great minds I've somehow managed to pick out components and order them.. which is amazing considering I'm the worst person in the world for making decisions which concern proper expenditure
laugh.gif

Anyway.. enough about me and more about the rig! Obviously, after watching every single of Tom's vids on youtube so far and registering here I've had a cracking time and the rough spec was this:

Xigmatek Utgard

ASUS X58 Sabertooth

I7 950

Mushkin Redline

GTX 460 sli

750 watt PSU

With that in mind I started thinking about how much it's going to cost and quite frankly I seriously am not one of the most well-off people on this planet. Been saving for literally ages and tightening my belt but it has all paid off! After some help from BloomerzUK I decided I was better off using something slightly bigger than the Uttie in which case I decided to go with CCL's beautiful offer for the NZXT Phantom (<3 Yewen!). After reading Mr.Strawberry's review of the Asus DirectCU 768s I thought that for that price I couldn't go wrong! Then came Tom and showed off the utterly fabulous Mushkin Radioactive and as a die-hard Fallout fan I just had to have them

. The 750 watt PSU was going down one street and one street only - Corsair. I didn't care so much about the white PSUs offered by NZXT at that time cos I bought my TX-750 for just a shade over 65 quid which in my mind is an absolute bargain.Monitor choice was quite difficult as I was on a budget but I managed to pick up a brand new Sammy 2450-H for £140! Then came the days of waiting for delivery (felt more like freaking years!).

And then as I was having my lunch at precisely 13:36 o'clock (aww damn.. that's the only reason I wished they had arrived a minute later) the big, yellow CityLink van pulled up in front of the house and consignment CRW01291 aka the goodies found its home.

Ah, nothing like the smell of fresh components, shall I say, with my nerd voice on?

Unfortunately the case didn't arrive the same day

What I did was pop in the chip and install the beautifully crafted NH-D14.

I was impressed by everything that Noctua gave me! Everything from the packaging through the accessories and last but of greatest importance to me the performance.

But SHEESH! This thing is absolutely massive! ("That's what she said" moment?) It somehow managed to make the Sabertooth look small!

Unfortunately I had to call it a day for the PC itself. That didn't mean, however, that I couldn't hook up the brilliant screen to my ancient laptop

The next morning literally thirty seconds after I woke up and checked my e-mails to see that my case was dispatched from the chaps over at DPD I heard a familiar knocking noise suggesting a Ford diesel engine. As I looked out of the window I saw the van and that's the moment I literally switched off. It was all here!

I could seriously get cracking then. I hurried up and popped the mobo in the case.

Just as it was looking nice and tidy came the time for the power supply.

C3PO naked.

After a while of struggling with the cables I finally managed to hide them all!

But hey! Stop! Windows time!

After Windows, drivers and lots of other things I was quite tired and called it a night.

Next morning I decided to find it a permanent home and fix up all the wires. Got a surge protected extention as well and VOILA, the PC was complete!

Again, I can't quite express my gratitude to this lovely community!

Cheers, Todd

Nice choice on the hardware and great cable management. Always a bit trickier with a non-modular, but in that chassis, it looks just as tidy

Chuffed for you Todd. Good to see it all going smoothly mate

Welcome to the 950 club

Edit. Sort those PCIE power wires out boy before old uncle Tom comes and gives you a cuff upside the lugs !

Out then back in boy, out then back in !!

Jesus. I think I have met me reincarnated

Few things I spotted.

1. I always leave my slippers under the desk.

2. We have the same phones
biggrin.gif

3. I have a cream leather chair.

Haha, thanks chaps! Well the PCI-E cables were a bit of a mess so I just decided to tie them up together and stick them infront of the PSU. And about that me being you reincarnated.. Not very unlikely, tbh
laugh.gif
. I am actually going to do some further cable managing and possibly sound proofing. Will update this as it goes. Didn't expect such great feedback, though
laugh.gif
And, yeah, the spaghetti was a freaking nightmare
laugh.gif

First thing your ram is in the wrong slots, it needs to go in the other set of colours or it wont boot.

Aha! I did actually spot my mistake once I planted it in the case. You can see on the later piccies its in the other slots

Had to check out the manual just to be sure

You, sir, have very sharp eyes indeed.

tom my have found his most attentive follower, but btw really happy for you buddy, great choice of parts and to me anyway great cable managment. Enjoy your new found freedom

Thanks, matey! BTW fixed the PCIs

Any suggestions on the sound proofing issue? I just want to stick something to the side panels and close up a hole or two.

You chose the right case - If that case was available when I in the market for one, I would have had it. Glad I helped on the decision though (dodgy pics and explanations lol).

Overall, I'd love to have a rig like that, clean and powerful.. no farting around there

Hey! It did lead me to a right decision at the end though, did it not? Thanks again, Jake!

Yeah, I didn't mean the above to be like.. well what a waste of time that was. I would have chosen that case over mine any day of the week if it was available back when I had to chose one

OK guys I need your help again, sorry

I've got a stable Primed for a couple of hours 4ghz at 1.28 BUT! Today while playing GTA IV I got a BSOD. I wondered what it was. When the PC switched off I started checking for a reason - gpus were cool, Noctua was as well. I rarely see my CPU temps above 60 unless I'm priming. Problem is the chipset(IOH/X58) heatsink is UNDER and between my top GPU and the Noctua :

I put my left hand's index finger on it and now I have a goddamned blister where I touched it. Any ideas? I've got this really small fan I'll try to prop up in there in the meantime.

EDIT: Temps have dropped. Unfortunately that little fan can be heard from the moon. I don't think there's a way of attaching my 200mm fan on the side panel that would clear the Noctua, unfortunately.

Merry X-mas peps. My router's going crazy so I can't connect with my new pc :/ Getting a wireless PCI card or something or just going ethernet.

Dust is not cool, kids. I have to clean my computer every bloody week! I mean just look at my poor Noctua

Definitely not a fan of the dusty outlines of the fan's spokes..

I live in a very, very dusty house apparently even though I hoover like every three days..

I was wondering why it was filling up so much - the filters on the intakes seemed to be doing their job but then it hit me - what about the empty holes?

I decided to block these off with some funky black fabric and masking tape...

So now it seems my case is quieter, my graphics cards and CPU's temps have dropped by a degree or two and I don't have to clean it as often. Booyah, baby!

Thinking of getting some bright red LEDs for the beast soon as well. You fellas think it would look good on a white Phantom?

Wana hand it over to me?
biggrin.gif
.. I won't mind cleaning it every second
tongue.gif

If I had two I would
tongue.gif
BTW what do you think about the red/blue thing? Your black Phantom has blue LEDs as well? Actually nodding towards white. How bright should the LEDs be and where can I get them? By looking at them I think they're 3mm. Tom good sir, could you perhaps shed some light, pardon the pun, on where you got the white LEDs for Hay's rig?
