i have been looking at a nice widescreen and it has these specs..
- 1440 x 900 (WXGA) Optimum Resolution
- 16.2 Million Colours
- 700:1 Contrast Ratio
- 8ms Response Time
- 300 cd/m2 Brightness
- One DVI-D Input
- One Analogue Input
are those specs good or what?
16.2 million colours is nothing but a lie, in reality it can show something like 298.000 colours and then use dithering to produce more colours.
most people dont notice it but if you plan on sitting close(less then 40-50cm) then you might notice it.
response time is also a lie.
the response time is the time it takes for a pixel to go from white to black or gray to gray, going from green to red can take over 3 times longer.
also 60hz refresh rate is a new image every 16.6ms so do some research, think tomhardware have measurements of how fast pixels change on some screens and a overall speed of 16ms is much better than low on gray to gray but high with red to green.
dvi-d is a must, have used both vga and dvi on my tft screen and dvi is just use it but with the vga i had to calibrate the screen which isnt uncommon and also some games messed up completly but worked perfectly with dvi.
dvi is digital which also produces a more clear picture than vga(analog) does.
also dont forget about stuck and dead pixels, some manufactures has better warranty on that than others.
some more info regarding response time.
the lower the response time the less good is the tft at producing the right colours, its because the screen is run with a higher V to force the pixels to change faster.
when a crt shows a colourchange it shows 0-180 but a tft with a low response time can show the same colourchange as 0-200-185-180.
this is something most people doesnt notice, its seen mostly in movies.
its an issue with the tft i have according to a review i have read but have only noticed it once and thats when changing windows in windows.
