test tube burger

Whatever next.............

Now they need to cut the price by £219,999 ....

Some people see this is the way our food will go, as the human race grows we need space and food by removing 1000's of farms and killing animals to mass production is a factory. We free up space for us to live.

This is all theory work but to assume we (the human race) will still be here by the time we run out of space is a bit optimistic.

I personally don't mind the idea of artificial growth of meat, for one we can control the quality and there will less chance of cross infection.

After being in Iceland this morning and looking at their 8burgers for £1 I think this burger will be much better.

Really I don't mind test tube stuff or GM crops. As long as the flavor is there i'm happy.

Don't think it will taste the same some how. I'm from the country side and i can only see the negative side to this

Yeah I know lol..

Only problem that I can see is that they grew a burger and not bacon.

In my head I've got a fridge with a touch screen and I can plan my weeks food and it will grow and print it (they made a food printer too)

Might want to claim that idea if you still can.

Haha i think you will find you can patent any idea if you have the money as long as you can describe it, looking at some engineering patents some are literally a single line and a picture.
mmm 3d printed food. now to me that's the perfect sandwich right there!
haha and to be honest the only down side i see to this is farmers will either go out of business or will have to stop with livestock and grow crops, might have stem cell farms ...
Even the people who are for animal rights cant argue with this, except maybe on the fact its kind of a method of cloning, as the animal does not even need to be made there for no animal is hurt so chicken mass farms and stuff can be closed. And ... if they used their noggins they could grow skin and things and test pharmaceutical drugs and make up on the skin rather than on animals and they could even grow the skin to have allergies, is they have mapped that part of the cellular structure and DNA, i will do my homework and find out:)

Some of that is already possible just cost prohibitive and metabolically prohibitive as well.

What's really quite big at the moment is "pharming" (yes I groaned at the name) where you alter the genetics of animals to produce proteins in things like their milk. Great way to produce loads of drug proteins like our old friend insulin.

(useless bit of knowledge there)

No such thing as useless knowledge, it was relevant and i had forgotten that until you brought it up, i still want someone to do that to a fish ;) i want fish nightlights!

Been working on that stuff as part of exam resits so it is fresh in the mind. Think the stuff that does that is called green fluorescent protein but you need a UV light for it to work right. I think it has been done, know the did it to mice so having glow int he dark pet fish isn't out of the question. To google....

A friend of mine has a few. They are really tiny. But they do glow pretty well under UV, mostly just the main part of the body, the edges are almost clear.
She has 3 yellow 2 pink and 2 of the 3 blues died.
