TeckNet M008 Gaming Mouse

Hi guys and welcome to my review for the TeckNet M008 Gaming Mouse, now I know as well as most the market for mice is huge and trying to decide which mouse you want and how many of those boxes it ticks is important, but I was in a hurry as my long serving Gigabyte mouse was on it's last legs so I had a good surf with a small budget in mind and a list of must haves and came across what I thought was a "too good to be true" product. Now when this happens alarm bells start ringing and the counterfeits start appearing so I did a little research and read quite a few reviews, albeit Amazon customer reviews mainly and those pokey "pop gamer so called reviewers" which all pretty much lead to the same brown nosing results. Well not content with that I fired off a few emails to a: the manufacturer and b: the Amazon seller, with surprising results they were really quick at returning my messages and confirmed everything. So Bang! the trigger was pulled and I handed over 18 of my British pounds and proceeded to play the Royalmail waiting game.

48Hrs later, here is what I have.

Firstly the packaging was sparse and very... well basic compared to other mice I've had in the past, no fancy plastic that's impossible to open without the need for a medic on standby it's just a simple brown box with brief description on it, extremely Eco friendly and a plus point in my eyes, onto the contents:

1x Weights set
1x Instruction manual

The Mouse.

I was not disappointed here I can tell you, first thing you notice is it's heavy, very heavy in fact I had to remove 4 of the weights before I was happy with the weight. The construction is solid with a full aluminium base and frame, even the center top piece that contains the scroll wheel and DPI lights is aluminium, the anti-sweat coating is a delight to hold and covers everything even the buttons it really does make for a comfortable experience, the scroll wheel is firm and yet very manageable indeed with illuminated side pieces and a thick tire tread rubber center, the cable I'm in two minds over this, I like the braided cable and who doesn't like a braided cable but this one is just a tad too stiff, while it is that lovely soft braid it is as I say stiff also the colour I feel should have been neutral either grey and black or simply black rather than red and black. The underside of the mouse is also work of art, the brushed aluminium is just eye catching, the 4 nylon feet are nicely spread and quite large making a flatter more stable gliding surface and also tucked away on the bottom is a settings switch which alters the colour of the LEDs.

Conclusion.

So in conclusion should you consider this mouse, most definitely yes! Given the build quality and shear comfort and ease of use for the price it is unbelievable, I would still be happy with this mouse if it had cost twice the price, I know TeckNet don't have the glamour or the exposure that say Corsair, Roccat, Madcatz or any of the popular mouse manufacturers have but that shouldn't put you off this companies products this mouse is clearly a winner, feature full and solid quality, while I found only one thing I don't like about this mouse namely the braiding, with all this in mind it still gets my gold award, great work TeckNet.

Value - 10/10

Tecknet (Anker are the same company as far as I'm aware so this statement stands for both) are a company who rebadge/make all sorts of PC peripherals that they sell through amazon. I also have a USB hub from them and its fantastically well made. They obviously think in this day and age its better to spend more money on the product then the packaging.

They also do an Optical mouse as well, which is a bit more accurate. Can't find it right now.

Good review :)

Oh interesting... I like my mice big, heavy and cheap!

Might have found a follow-up to my Kone [+] in this although it would need some modifications, like getting rig of the red lights and cable.

I'll read the full thing when I have time later, but does it also support white lighting or turning the lights off completely?

There are 5 preset lights via the switch on the base or alternatively switch them off altogether, or you can use the utility disc that comes with it and pick from 16 Million colours. ;)

EDIT: There is complete support for 5 different levels of recordable macro functions, and button remapping. I left it all out as I've not installed it, because I don't have the ODD installed and can't seem to find it as a download either.

A DISC, Wraith? What do you think I am? A PC pleb?

Hmmm, I'll have to look further into this mouse. Thanks a lot! :)

I presume its the same as mine. I'll try and upload it for you if I still have it :)

So 4 months later, what is this mouse like to live with? Well I can tell you it has not been plain sailing but neither has it been a disappointment, I spend a lot of time in Photoshop, Blender and more recently 3DS Max so I need precision and it still doesn't miss a beat, it tracks smooth still and hasn't developed any of those annoying phantom click issues (either random double clicks or no click registering) it has recently decided to develop a rather potent chalk board style squeak at the scroll wheel which just required a quick strip and clean (just dirt), also after updating Windows 8.1 Pro 2 days ago sometimes upon boot the mouse will not engage meaning I have to unplug it and plug it back in (thanks Microsoft).

All in all I'm extremely happy with it, the anti-sweat coating is still perfectly intact compared to other cheap mice where it would rub off over time, the feet are all still perfectly new-ish, the buttons and scroll wheel are still firm and solid no noticeable wear from them, given the amount of abuse I've handed the TechNet M008 it still serves me well and I hope it will do for quite some time to come.

Hey Wraith! regarding that issue with the mouse not working after booting.. I'd recommend forcing a driver re-install ;)
It was a conflict between the OEM mouse drivers and Microsoft HID driver, all sorted now though. Uninstalled the OEM driver and problem solved, it would seem MS has upped their game on hardware support

My one developed a squeak around the same time into ownership as well! It never had the engaging problem though so I wonder if something is slightly wrong with yours.

Nah nothing wrong with the mouse itself, it was the OEM drivers causing it, once those were removed it stopped doing it.
