I'd assume these would have some added enterprise features like PLP and higher endurance with at least 1 DWPD for the rated life, but that's still overpriced. I had switched from buying QNAP a number of years back and had settled on Synology, but that's probably going to change again. Offering this as optional is a great idea IMO, but forcing it is something else entirely.
Imagine getting one of these units after they are EOL for a homelab, but not being able to swap the drives unless you want to shell out for way overpriced gear. You'd be better off buying another NAS at full price and using whatever drives you want. Then this perfectly workable, but EOL device ends up as e-waste.
