Stupid Question about front Audio

Ok.

I have an Asus commando, and wants to use the front audio ports on my case, old antec P160. BUT here's the annoying thing, while i can make the headfone/speaker port work, I can't seam to make the mic port work, which is what i really want.

I have tried both AC97 and HDAudio type in the bios, and neither work.

Would, as i am planning to, upgrading the onboard sound to an X-FI based card work, likely the creative extream gamer?

Does the mic work as u`r wanting if u plug u`r mic in the rear mobo i/o socket ?

anychance you forgot to go into sound properties and select mic settings etc??

Yes.. this works, but is annoying, as the computer is under my desk.

There is nothing in properties to select the front mic port, only for the front headfone port.
