Strange noise coming from my fans or Corsair H105

Hey all,

I have a very strange issue i can here a strange like humming or whistling noise not sure if it's fans or the Corsair H105 i was using the Corsair SP120's White LED fans it was making the same noise as of now with my new fans now, The ones i'm using now are the EK Varder 120's White 2200RPM.

I can here it now when i'm just basically idling but when i open programs up the noise will ramp up for a few seconds once the program loads the noise will drop.

The Corsair H105 was running off the motherboard header and now it's running in a Molex the noise is there on both has anyone else had this issue with the H105 or similar.

The case i'm using is a FD Define S and the Rad is mounted in the front of the case.

Use a loo roll tube against your ear to try and pinpoint the noise, then people may be able to offer more advice, as a fan making that noise is one thing, but if the pump part is making the noise, that's entirely another thing :)

I had several H105's that were all very much audible, wouldn't describe it as a whistling noise, just a grindy rumble of irritance. Does it still change in pitch when hooked directly to +12v?

Changing when programs initiate sounds odd though, if it isn't linked to actual 'load' then perhaps it's GPU/PSU/motherboard coil whine.

It could be coil whine the only thing has changed is the PSU from a RM to a RMi series but i think it was even doing it when i was using the RM PSU

I think i read on another forum about changing the Y splitter cable since the one that comes with it it not good. i'm going to change the cables first and check to see if that fixes it.

With the noise it not really too loud it's just more annoying that anything

I have the fans setup in the UFEI to Silent mode and 300RPM unless the UFEI is not working correctly.

It could be a UFEI issue, I'm going to try running them through the fan hub again but i think they were making a noise even through the fan hub too.

Ghetto test - Isolate the sound very briefly by stopping the fans with your fingers for a second or two (They start right back up) If the noise is still there it's the pump. If the noise stops it's the fans.
I just hold the centre of the fan not the blades.

I will try that

It could be the pump i seen a lot of people had issues with the H105.

Strange thing is it sounds like it's coming from all of the fans even the 2 case fans too.

Could be the new case has different acoustics to the old one and it's more noticeable? Like how you can hear a very quiet hum at night time. The noise is always there but you become more attuned to it.

Hope it's not the pump. RMA's are fine with Corsair (get them to cover the shipping - it's in Hong Kong) but painful having no cooler for a week or two!

Maybe the noise has always been there and now i have notice it more now with the Define S.

I'm sure i seen JR on here saying his H105 wasn't good either that is why he change it

That is why secretly i want the EK AIO cooler  i know it's over priced but i really like it

Over priced maybe but if you like it - get it. You don't have to justify price to anyone but yourself (and usually the missus) :)

I don't have that problem i don't have a missus

When i do get the EK AIO i will end up getting the 360 version cause it expandable i will be looking to water cool the GPU as well.

Oh well you're set then :) Yeah 360 has better features and expandability but that quick disconnect needs to be black.

edit any luck with finding the source?
