Storage Solution for Video Editing/Video files?

Hi guys,

So getting into my video editing a bit more with my GoPro and Mobius cameras and as you can probably imagine my 1TB secondary drive is fast filling up with files.

As a result I want to look into other storage options for big files such as this and maybe a place to back up my files and store my music/photos etc.

In your opinion what are my best/most cost effective options and are these easy to do?

From my initial thoughts I think my options are..

-Another harddrive

-NAS

-Server

Thanks!

Will

I use a Synology NAS with WD Reds it's just so much better than just a drive

Could you link me your set up?

What's better about reds?

Would I be able to work from the NAS i.e. import all video to the NAS and work in my video editor pulling from the NAS or is that too slow and can effect video quality?

How much data are you looking at storing and is raid important?

Essentially I want space and if it's a viable option an ability to edit my movies direct from the drive?

Or am I better off editing on my internal drive and then moving data to the external drive after?

i use wd reds for my mechanical drives they are slow but never had one fail on me.
greens fail on me like some one designed them to fail.

Looks like a synology with reds is gonna be my best bet for a good quality storage solution then :)

Thanks guys

HGST make some good NAS drives too but it depends on how much extra they are compare to the WD Reds

The good thing with the Synology is you can store your stuff with a redundancy drive too so if one fails you put in another and away you go, the drives are quite fast too it didn't take me long to back up over 12TB of stuff so yes really worth it
