Hey Guys,

So been quite a while since ive posted here, busy doing a lot of training and messing sround with old hardware so that i can assemble my sort of up to date server properly.

So the system itself is a

Asus AM2+ Motherboard

AMD Sempron single core

2gb DDR2 1000mhz ram

160GB system drive

160GB Mirror drive

300GB Data Drive

2TB Western digital green Acronis and media drive

300mbps Wireless card

Ati radeon 3400 Gpu

The system itself is used daily as a backup server for my laptop, network streaming and overall storage facility. The system is running windows 7 ultimate oem with all the latest drivers (network, storage controller etc) and best of all cost a total of £0! Thats right £0!

This was achieved by getting the storage from 2 old sky+ boxes, one HD and one normal. ALL the hardware was sourced from the freecycle websites from various people giving away parts etc so i am well happy witht the outcome.

On the OS configuration side, i am currently running software mirroring with 2 160gb drives that are continuosly synced and the OS and files is then daily backed up with Acronis home 2012 onto a 100gb partition on the 300gb hard drive. The 200gb remainder of the 300gb hard drive currently holds some of my programmes for future use, pictures and important documents.

Last is the 2tb hard drive which solely serves as my media storage containing HD TV series, 1080P BluRay films and music collections. This is all split into seperate headed folders where each is shared accross the network as shared files.

The network is set up so that the server is connected to my GetNet wireless access switch through a Cat5e network cable and my laptop connects wireless on a seprate network to my braodband which means i get a clearer network connection. The current transfer speed i am getting is 11MB/s wireless and 15MB/s through the cable which is perfect for me.

So thats my rig and a brief spec and setup, any questions are welcome and if i can give advice on helping you perform a similar setup then please just ask.

Thanks

Nice BTX setup, still never understood why the attempt to switch everybody over. Like how compact it is but the wire blob kinda bothers me... but that just how ocd I am
