I might be missing something, but is this mouse a wireless mouse? There is no receiver listed in the box contents but I don't get why you would bother with a detachable USB cable if not?

The cable is detachable. It allows users to replace their cables if they want, perhaps with a coloured braided cable or a longer or shorter cable to increase cable length or reduce cable clutter.
