You can download it here and read the FAQ here.

A couple of points:
  • Drivers currently only support Nvidia cards.
  • Download size is roughly 960MB
  • Based on Debian 7.1
  • Designed to run Steam and Steam games, but can run normal Linux applications.

Apparently people are having trouble downloading at the moment due to high demand though.

Nice, thanks dude. There's no download link on the official site page so I thought valve might have delayed the release.

I hope that the in-home streaming gets released soon!

really would like to try it, pc games in the living room :)

You can't "bypass" windows, yet. Many games/software still don't run on linux.

I'm tempted to give it a try in VirtualBox, but I might just wait for someone to upload some footage on youtube since it must be pretty limited atm.

I have no idea how to get around in linux so I'm going to wait until the iso or easy install likes windows method is available

I was afraid they'd pick Ubuntu.

I'll admit I'm biased towards Debian, being my Linux of choice, but the stable branch of Debian is about as dependable and reliable as you can get. ^_^

Plus the fact it uses dpkg as the package manager will help me if I want to customize the hell out of it.

I'm not a massive Linux user so I'm looking for a Linux enthusiast to post their first impressions.

I'm in the process of setting up a VM. I've used linux in the past, but I'm no power user.

EDIT: After faffing about creating an iso image I finally have it installing.

I got it on late last night seems stable and decently fast I just don't particularly like bug picture mode with a keyboard and mouse but other than it does what it says on the tin, only real issue is right now I have no audio but its on the list, and didn't have time to part about with it too much, if u do try it make sure to disable all other drives in your BIOS other than the one you want to install it too, didn't give any option to select a particular one.

Update: I'm on the login screen. Let's see if this works. I can write a quick guide for anyone else who is interested and stuck. This Reddit thread was helpful, but the information is scattered.

This is what it looks like after you login using the default info (Ignore the time, it's wrong):

I just got round to setting it up now. Gonna play around with it for a little while.

EDIT: I've got it installed on a VM (VirtualBox), which was a bit of a PITA to do.

There's no point in considering it as a daily os atm, if you want steam on linux just install any distro of linux (mint, ubuntu...) and put steam on that, basically the same thing but more stable.

On a side note, got it running in VirtualBox too but gnome keeps crashing and being a beta I don't really feel the point in troubleshooting it.
