Last night, Valve announced that their Steam Family Sharing program is now available to all users.
Steam Family sharing allows family members, or friends, to be able to access each others steam librarys.
This is to allow family members to each have an individual steam account and be able to borrow games from one another, this allows them to have independent saves and achievements in borrowed games.
There are a few restrictions that do apply to Steam Sharing, the device limit is a 10 and an account limit of 5, so 5 different users can access your library over 10 computers.
Users cannot play a game on more than a single account at a time, Region locks on games will still apply and games which are VAC-Banned cannot be shared.
Only games without the need for 3rd party accounts, subscriptions or DRM cannot be shared, given that Valve does not control that DRM.
To setup Family Library Sharing using the Steam Client, go to Steam > Settings > Family and you can start to authorize and manage other computers.
So what do you guys think of Steam family sharing? How many of you guys plan using using this system, or abusing it? Please comment below.
For more information please go to Steam's family sharing page and read Valve's Frequently asked questions on Steam Family Sharing.
