Stay with 980 Ti or upgrade to 1080 ?

Well the reviews are up for the 1080 and it shows quite a leap from the 980 Ti which is impressive but really sad for me since I bought my 980 Ti in November last year seeing it beaten so fast where my 980 Ti had little usage (not reaching it's limits in games) and I'm in the same dilemma I was when I was wanting to buy 980 Ti out of fear that the Pascal will easily beat it so I'm generally curious what do you folk think.

While I don't regret buying my 980 Ti that late in the year even when Pascal was announced with it's die shrink I bought my 980 Ti because I was impatient and wanted a GPU to last me for couple of years playing games on 1440p but seeing how much increase the 1080 is I'm wondering is it a smart move to upgrade to 1080 or stay with my 980 Ti ?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in forward.

EDIT: I have MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming Edition (OC-ed), if anyone is wondering.

It is quite a leap from the 980 not the Ti, even in SLI the performance of the 1080 only beats a single 980Ti by 10 - 14% on average.

Lets not forget it was not made to be a Ti/Titan Killer.

No real reason to sidegrade to the 1080 TBH. The 980Ti handles 1440p fine and will continue to do so. The 1080s DX12 support is no better than the 980ti

Since you're running an oc'd 980Ti I'd stick with that for sure. As others already said, there's no reason to go for a 1080 if yiu have your 980Ti

If you get a top end card there's really never a reason to upgrade to the next generation, unless you swim in money.

980ti is still a great card. The only time to consider the 1080 is for VR, it is where the big difference is with the 1080. Past that there is little or no gain to be had over the ti.

Well I didn't check the thread yesterday after creating it and I just wanted to say thank you everyone for replying.

I think I will be keeping my 980 Ti until I see maybe a performance problems even with lowered settings.

Once again thanks folk.

I have started to see used ones going on ebay at auction for 370 and less. Which is a great deal

Yeah me to!

But unfortunately I'm moving away in 5 weeks and so all my pennies are tied up! :(
Hopefully il have some left over to buy a 2nd and water cool that also :) then no more PC spending...... Aha yeah right.

Get another 980Ti put them in SLI and you can probably skip the Pascall gen altogether, most likely the next gen too.

I been having a dilemma if I should buy a 1080! I have 2 MSI 970's and benchmarks show sometimes beats a 980ti and sometimes not leaving me to think will it be worth it. I do want VR but still a bit on the fence. What I am not liking is SLI. I do like the 8gb on the 1080. Soooo should I just sell them and hopefully not be out of pocket buying a 980ti secondhand or what?? What would the go 980ti be?

PS I am still looking for one of those money trees!

EDIT - Or stick with SLI and add a 3rd MSI 970!

For gaming, I advise against 3way sli. You will gain almost nothing in comparison with 2way SLI except when benchmarking. At times you will see an FPS drop.

From My pov, i would suggest waiting until the market has been flooded or stabilized with the 1070 and 1080 cards so the 980Tis drop in price further.

Unless you see a good deal of course. Who knows, you might see a great deal from someone selling both of their 980Ti cards.

Speaking of 1080 and VR, why are we not seeing any comparisons yet between the 980ti and 1080. We know reviewer's have the equipment, but no numbers are coming forth.
