SSD erase/wipe through BIOS?

Hi guys

Can I format/erase/wipe my SSD in the BIOS or any other non-Windows environment(I can't access Windows)? I'd like to clean install Windows onto my SSD as I've just built a new rig and I've had a lot of BSODs for various reasons on this drive in the past couple of weeks.

Thanks a bunch

What brand is your ssd ?

Some manufacturers give you the possibility to create a bootable usb key with their software on it to wipe your ssd. I have done so with my Samsung 830 and the SSD Magician software but you need to have acces to a computer to create the bootable drive in the first place.

Also update the firmware of your ssd, mobo bios which could help solve the bsod problems.

No unfortunately, not for 2 days at least

I do have the W8 Pro disc though and an optical drive

Do you have a spare drive on which you could install windows ? Or maybe create another partition on your ssd to install the OS.

Also please do not double post, use the button.

Theres only 1 partition on the SSD at the mo (C:), but it does have around 60GB of free space if I remember correctly. No spare drives.

How do I go about creating a new partition using the BIOS? Sorry, bit of a noob in some areas.

OK, I've inserted the 64-bit disc and booted from it, but it seems to be hanging at the "Setup is starting" screen. I'm assuming I have to go through the standard install procedure to a certain point, as the only other options were "Repair Windows" which had no option to erase drives.

If you're using an optical drive, it'll take a while to get past that point, don't expect it to be as quick as a USB drive.

After it loads up;
- Enter your Product key
- Accept the license agreement
- then press "Custom Install"
- Select your SSD, then at the bottom right of the window, click "Drive Options (Advanced)"
- Then you can either choose "Format" to wipe the partition or "Delete" to delete the partition, if you choose "Delete" you can create a new partition by selecting "New"

That should hopefully cover what you wanted to do.
