Spotify is increasing its pricing for all subscription tiers in the UK and Europe

Oh this wont affect me to much, single account sub through my isp with it being 1 euro cheaper per month then directly through spotify, all good here.

Don't use any Music streaming service, I just buy the music and then play it on my phone or through my Plex Server.

That way I don't have to deal with price increases, loss of service when I lose internet etc.

My sister does use Spotify though and she has already said she may look at cancelling and just buy the music herself.

I have told her to do it, because it works out cheaper overall if you are just listening to about 10 albums mainly, plus there is YouTube as well.

Does Tidal have the same selection? I don't like Spotify but I don't know what else to use.
They tend to run pretty steep discounts quite often, so I suggest you just try. Tidal's library is better for some genres, Spotify's for others, but Spotify is overall better library wise.

I've bounced between Spotify and Tidal since Tidal has had a deal like "3 euros for 3 months" occasionally. I do tend to return to Spotify since I prefer their recommendation algorithm and third party clients (librespot based clients are nice for in home streaming music), but Tidal is a fairly good service.

Both of their official clients are pretty similar in my opinion, and I don't like either.

Tidal has a collection of hand picked well-mastered albums, which sound great. Though Spotify's high quality compression is good as well, so good quality is available there as well as long as you listen to right albums. But there are no search tools for it.

Pretty sure you can look at Tidals library without paying, just get 30 seconds low quality.

Tidal sound quality is vastly superior and that alone is worth it to me. It's got a massive selection of songs. Probably more than spotify. But it's not as varied content as spotify so it's all up to what you listen to. I'm pretty happy with my metal music selection. Rarely run into something I can't find on it. When I do run into it half the time Amazon music doesn't have it either so I'd guess spotify probably wouldn't. But I never used spotify personally so can't confirm.

Almost the same library, and far far FAAAR superior audio quality. If you were rich, they have a HiFi subscription where you get the best you can get for streaming quality and makes spotify sound drab. That is for the true audiophiles though.

have a stonking library on my server i have never used any audio services uploading all my old rave tapes from my childhood was a job though

Student or military discount helps. I'm not sure if that applies outside the US but I use a friend's student info to get my discount. I pay same price as the cheapest plan for my HiFi. So worth it

No discount for me, it costs $19.99 a month if i subbed the high end one.

Ah shame. They should offer it outside the US if they offer it inside the US.

With the amount of music I listen to, €20 per month is still cheaper than buying it all individually and having the HDD space to fit it.

It is worth remembering spotify later this year is releasing their "HiFi" plan at cd quality I believe they said. So you could wait to try that as well. Idk if they announced pricing yet or availability worldwide.

Yeah, I heard about that. I think it's coming to Ireland later this year. I probably will wait for it as I'm already part of the Spotify infrastructure. And as much as I think their app is way too stripped down, I am used to it and have multiple playlists that I like.

The worst part about switching music apps is rebuilding libraries. You'd think a smaller company like Tidal would implement some sort of feature like that to help get people to try and maybe stay in their ecosystem.

It's the same with note taking apps. I've been a user of Evernote for a decade, but their latest update completely ruined the experience. The company saw a mass exodus of customers and clients so it wasn't just me. But there was no way of transferring notes to a different app. The competitors seemingly had no way of installing a import feature into their apps. The only way to transfer them was manually.

There are websites for transferring libraries, but I can't really recommend them as it's a pretty obvious security risk - much like GOG Galaxy 2 plugins. As in, official APIs aren't crafted with easy switching in mind, and as such they utilise your full credentials / session cookie.
