Specifications for AMD's RX 500 series leak online, with some suggesting that the new series of GPUs will use a more advanced version of the 14nm FinFET processing node.

I think a good opportunity would be to add faster memory chips or even G5X for the 580. Would get pretty big performance increases, or more so from that since it's likely the core clocks won't get much higher

It all depends on how much GDDR5X costs and if t gives AMD any meaningful gains in performance.

More memory bandwidth is good, but having more for the sake of it is meaningless. Remember that only the 1080 and 1080Ti from Nvidia have GDDR5X and they are designed for 4K gaming.
 
Well it's faster. Running at 7ghz memory now to even 8ghz and with G5X running at say 9Ghz, is a very large increase in speed. And speed is what counts for gaming.
 
I would love to see GDDR5X on the 580. That would be real stellar move by AMD. If 1400Mhz became pimps to achieve and higher plus 8-9Ghz 5X memory, it may not compete against Volta 1160 but it'll trump the current 1060.
