Is it possible to change the way people can join, I have a suggestion that may help which may stop spammers.

While that question is ok for the bots, it doesn't stop the spammers who take the time to register on the forum and then spam the hell out of it. We were physically going through and approving users before they had full access (which worked), but that takes a lot of time depending upon how many join up in a day.

perhaps they have to post in introduction first? then u will only have to check introduction for spam?

That guy who randomly posted about 400 links to Nike VIP shoes made me laugh so hard.

Keep them, its more entertainment for the users.
