Sony to close PlayStation group?

Would certainly be a sad day if this happens. Some of my fondest memories are on the PS1 with games like Resident Evil etc..

For the sake of the console gaming industry, the competition is very much needed. If the competition aint there, it`ll be higher prices for minor improvements that u must purchase in order to play the game u want.

I don't think they will close it down.

Regardless of recession and etc.

They might slim down the usage of disposable income and makes things, they are developing, take longer.

e.g. Playstation Home. They might take their time on it if the budget was short.

For the sake of competition, I truly hope they do not go under. But I do hope they learn a valuable lesson, and change their strategies. Throwing as much prototype and expensive technology as they have in to the PS3 has been causing them to bleed Yen out of every orifice.

lol, havent they already taken there time on playstation home! :p

I don't see any mention of sony dropping playstation ??

I doubt they will.

I hope they don't anyway as I'm posting this from my PS3 .

the tech they have put into the ps3 has paid off - for me its the only console worth having. Its my media power house - bluray and integration with a lot of my devices.

they run well and dont die like 360s. the games and power of the ps3 is really taking off recently and the likes of killzone 2 will revolutionise hopefully.

Well as a die hard PC gamer I can see the obvious plus side it it did happen. With the competition gone from the casual console market alot of developers will turn back to creating new games for PC's, which has a number of huge benefits for us PC gamers... Although with Microsoft basically being the ruling house of both future Xbox consoles and Windows/DirectX I could foresee a monopoly forming (or growing, depending on your feelings towards the company).

Aye what they missed was the market of people who dont have a hd-tv and jsut want to plug and play like the ps1 and ps2 and not have to shell out a hellva lot for it

Always said ps3 with a normal drive lower the cost and there you go, but they cant now.

You can do that with the PS3. In fact, it doesn't actually come with an HDMI cable as standard, it comes with a composite/scart cable. The PS3 is incredibly easy to set up and gives awesome PQ for both games and Blu Rays

A normal drive wouldn't fit in a PS3 for a start.

Yes Sony are losing money on every PS3 sold but software sales are still going very well overall and will continue to do so for many years, much like the PS2. Microsoft will launch a new console and drop support on the 360 but I have a feeling Sony are thinking longer term with the PS3 so we'll still be seeing AAA titles coming out on it and they will get gorgeous as developers get used to the hardware, much like the PS2.

I'm not a 'fanboy' of either console, I just found myself using my PS3 more and more for everything: BR's, PlayTV, Games, Media Centre...and the 360 just sat there gathering dust

I can't see Sony canning Playstation, there's simply too much invested in it for them to do that. The article doesn't explicitly say they will drop Playstation, just cut down on some markets and divisions.

They could have made better use of the cell processor if they added 1GB of Ram and not 256MB that is shared with the RSX.

Would have been much better.

Not much of a performance gain there really tho mate

I mean look at what it can do already - easily on par with PC games already

at least its cheaper this way and fit for purpose

But they are setting for 10yrs into the future without any changes (except slimming it down) while in 10 years the PC would probably running 128 cores on the processor alone. A bit of exaggeration there but you know what I meant.

And think about GPU and etc. They will advance as well.

And also, the reason Crysis wasn't on the PS3 was because of the lack of RAM :p.

PC ftw!

PC's just aren't as convenient and well suited for their purpose as games consoles are. I can't stick my PC on the TV then sit back and game quickly and easily on my sofa, it just doesn't happen.

I love my PC, but I do really enjoy console gaming

i know what you mean, you and all your mates sitting around the tv playing on your console. It certainly makes thing easier.

Which is why most PC gamers have a console. :D

I also play single player and multiplayer games on a console, I've gone off PC gaming recently, it's just too constrictive to me.

but they do need to keep the barrier between console and pcs. PCs imo should be the cutting edge technology games and consoles catering more for digital integration and multiplayer etc.

I see my pc as the powerhouse and the ps3 as the fun factor

PC gaming is pretty much dead now :(
