Sony quietly launches a revised PlayStation 5 system

It is a CONSOLE. A device that sits for MONTHS near a tv....who cares about weight???

When Sony plans to ship millions of these things, you can be sure the weight reductions are a concern for them. For end-users, it doesn't really matter.

The big question is if the weight was reduced, what functionally changed inside the console?

Probably a few mounts and supports switched to acetal/POM or similar reducing the metal inside.

PS5 is still hard to get in my country (New Zealand)
when they're briefly available, the limited stock always get sold FAST.

still waiting

The weight reduction based of a video from Austin is from reducing the heat sink by quite a lot, making it run hotter.

Not a good move by Sony when they have issues with heat already on consoles.

One of the few times I suppose where early adopters wont feel cheated given the remodelled version are not as efficient, heat wise.
