ELYRIA — Daniel Petric shot his parents -- killing his mother -- because they wouldn't allow him to play the violent video game Halo 3, prosecutors told a judge at the boy's murder trial Monday.

The trial, on charges of murder and attempted murder, opened Monday for Petric, 17, of Brighton Township. He is being tried without a jury before Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge.

Truely sickening.

So sad.

I wonder if we were always like this, or if it's just the media world we live in that lets us hear about these horrific cases. If the violence were to be cut from life would this type of thing happen anymore? I cant help but think that this is just another example of the way we create our own problems. Pump violence from tv's, radios, film, video games.. Add a clearly unbalanced kid. Throw in some drugs maybe. Quick shake. And its a school massacre, or family slaying.

Say this kid were to of been brought up shelted from the violence (just lets say that could happen..) Would he still of killed his mum?

Did this sort of madness happen 100 years ago? Or 500?

Worst bit is the game will be blamed for his psychological state and therefore cool games will become the target. Precedence must not be set.

A curious 3rd post, but I'm not one to judge.

Yes, carp like this has happened forever. Mentally unstable people killing their family isn't new and I doubt that the numbers of crazy people has changed much either. The "reasons" why they went crazy are the things that change, and it always seems to follow the new fad. The real reason it happens, is because they are ****ed in the head. The rock music, computer game, yo-yo's may have been the thing that pushed them over the edge, but you can't punish the whole of society because a tiny percentage of people can't distinguish between real life and a game.

Anyway, it was the staph infection and forced isolation that made him crazy. He probably would have killed them if they hadn't given him ice cream.

Yup I totally agree mate, NO way can you blame the game, if they're tempted to do something like that then they don't even deserve to be playing the game.

To be quite honest, the news reporters really ANNOY me to no end when they blame the game and not the obvious person who has caused the problem.
