So help me maybe ? :(

Hi everyone,

I have built my PC 6 days ago and it consists of : G-Skill Sniper 8GB DDR3 (dual channel) 1600MHz 1.25volts, i3 3220, MSI Z77A G-45, HD 7870 Tahiti LE etc...

So, it was all working perfectly for a good 3-4 days. Then my problems started. The PC would not boot, and out of the 4 leds on top of the motherboard, only 1 will light up when PC is turned on. So, after reading about my issue, I have found a video on youtube of a guy fixing this problem by taking out the ram and putting it back in. I went ahead and done that, it worked ! YAY . BUT, the next morning, same thing... Tried the same thing, it wouldn't work. So I call my friend and he gives me possible solutions to the problem. Tried all, none worked. So he comes round mine with his rig and a spare monitor to see what the problem is.

We replace his RAM with my RAM and here we go, works, YAY ! It looked like the motherboard was trying to make my Snipers run at 1.5volts instead of their stock voltage. My friends RAM (1.5volts) seemed to have fixed the problem. We went into the BIOS and setup everything for my RAM, put the voltage to 1.25volts, put my ram in, BOOM IT WORKS xP
LED's shining bright like diamonds, playing some COD4 etc. All happy about everything being fixed.

So... today I wake up trying to go on my computer and the same exact thing happens... No video is displayed on the monitor, only 1 LED on mobo lights up. Looks to me like the motherboard tried to force my RAM to run at higher volts again which caused the exact same problem. I don't know what to do now. Even though we have set everything in the BIOS, it just happened again.

I'm very frustrated and I don't know what to do... Should I replace my ram to RAM that will run at 1.5volts or should I update the BIOS while my friend's RAM is in ( like it says on the internet ) ??

I've only built the PC 6 days ago and I'm rapidly getting into PC's xPP

So help me maybe ? :( Thanks in advance :')

I'd try to update the BIOS. A good ol'BIOS refresh is never really a bad thing.
Did XMP not set up your memory's voltage correctly?

I'll give that a go when I get my friends ram x.x I'll probably have them in the afternoon today so I shall give a shout on here if it worked :P Its definitely going to work but I'm scared that the mobo will do the same thing again...

If I remember correctly we changed the voltage yesterday when we were sorting everything out... Yet again, if i remember correctly, I dont think it was set up correctly before we actually went into the BIOS and changed it ourselves :'/

like josh says i would use 1 stick try to get to bios set xmp to enable'd and use the bios browser to update the bios this should fix the problem or you could take the ram back to where you bought it and swap it to 1.5v sticks..

I'll have a go... but yesterday when I tried running with one stick the same thing was happening. You can hear the hdd running windows, everything starts up perfectly but only 1 led is shining and no video is seen on the screen & without seeing anything I will not be able to change anything :(

I'll try this again and if it doesnt work, I'll ask my friend to bring his RAM round mine again and Ill update the bios, get my RAM into the mobo and have everything set up correctly this time through the updated BIOS .

Sorry for keeping you waiting :( , everything is now sorted... It was nothing to do with the ram or mobo... This is how it went.

So, we were trying everything, from researching stuff on internet and replacing parts to reseting the CMOS ... Nothing worked.

After 2 hours of wondering around with dissapointed faces, me myself began to touch the pc like a gienie lamp, begging for the pc to boot... Clicked the power button, nothing. So iBeInspire decides to tap the bottom of the case with frustration I guess and what happens ? It works ! Haha xDD the 8-pin connector is losing contact sometimes therefore playing around with it or giving the case some sort of vibrations solves the problem, still not quite happy with that, but glad we have found the cure to this problem :')

Additional : we knew there was something wrong with the 8-pin because the effect after booting with and without it being plugged in were the exact same ...

We had a good 15min laughing and now I'm here, about to go bed after quite a long day xPP thanks for the help :)

i was about to suggest re-flashing the bios or replacing the chip but well done i am glad its sorted for you now:)

It was sorted yesterday.. Same thing in the morning ;/

The 8-Pin in the Mobo does not contact properly and some vibration or playing around with the cable enables the PC to boot, the 4 LED's come on.
But in all honesty, I dont want to unplug everything, get the contact, plug everything back in in order for my PC to boot. HEADACHES EVERYWHERE :'/

I guess I'll have to RMA the Mobo and wait for a new one that will come with a healthy 8-Pin socket which will not require me to play around with it every single morning in order for it to boot :( What do you think ?

I am quite sure that it is the mobo socket itself... Whenever I take the 8pin out, the same exact same thing happens as to when it was in... Yesterday, me and my friend plugged the 8pin from his PSU and still the same exact thing. Then when my rig was just chilling and not wanting to boot while we were really dissapointed, it decided to boot by slapping its floor twice. There must be something with the contact because his PSU didnt want to work in my rig (same exact thing as to when my one was plugged in) and simple vibrations managed to turn the rig on...

Just so everyone's clear, tomorrow we're sticking his PSU in my Rig, just to rule out the possibility of it being a PSU Problem entirely...
Never heard of a £80 board not having it's 8-pin soldered on properly, but hey... what can we do :(

Good stuff - just thought id mention it

We hooked up the PSU to iBeInspire's rig and guess what ... ITS THE PSU :'/ the 8-Pin on the PSU is really loose therefore not making proper contact.. RMA'ing it soon x.x Hope it doesnt take too long since ive got 9days of school soon :(

Nevermind dude, the same thing happened to me few months ago... Though I bought all used stuff of fleabay and didn't know what was wrong.. Ended up getting new mobo, cpu and found out it was the PSU after all! It was Corsair AX850 that I bought from one scumbag as NEW, but when it arrived it was obviously opened... However, everything was working fine first few days, so I didn't worry about it... Should have checked his feedback first.
Don't tell them it's the cable, it's something inside the PSU that makes mobo come "alive" from a sleep mode... the one shining led is basically a sleep mode.
