SMP

Is there something wrong if i can't even finish a SMP in 3 days of folding?

i have 2 GPU's getting around 6kppd, how ever i noticed that SMP have lower ppd and was wondering if there might be a reason it takes so long.

Are you folding on SMP all the time (24/7)? If not that would probably be the reason. Other than that, something else might be eating up CPU time.

Folding 24/7 should get you way more than 6k PPD on an i5. I was getting +/- 10k on a Q6600 @ 3.2ghz.

not folding 24/7 need to do some work on my computer. Also turn it off when I head to sleep. All up each day it's on around 16 hours.

The main problem is even when they get close to finishing (99.99%) it freezes and jumps back. this has happened once or twice other than that no smp have ever got close to finishing.

You might want to scale your clocks back or even go back to stock to see if it does the same. Because that's not normal operation.

If you're running the V7 client, make sure you're running the latest version.

i am running the latest version, just tried reinstalling the client now it won't start any task.

started now so discard the above...

still going to try for 12 hours and see how many smp files i can egt done.

still having problems, getting to 99.99% of what the file says. and then it freezes and ETA becomes 'Unknown'.

i put my clocks back to default (2.8GHz) and hasn't made any real difference.

Mine (on one pc) does something similar to that. Seems to freeze, showing ETA Unknown for a few minutes (anything up to 15).......then it actually sends it.

The problem I have is, after "sending", both GPU and SMP just sit there and will not receive new work units (HTTP UNKNOWN in the log) unless I reboot the PC.

I know how frustrated you must also feel, because there doesn't seem to be much help available anywhere on the net !

my GPU uploads seem fine, it gives me a new task up to 10 mins before one finishes and they continue.

just my CPU sits there at 99.99% and every time i restart the client or reboot it goes back to say 24% or sits at 99.99%

Does the GPU tracker work any better?

I'm going to have another scout around the net again tonight..............I have made a note of what's happening to you, if I find any answers in any shape or form I'll let you know.

It happened to me one time today, a WU on smp had sat there for quiet a while on 100% with ETA showing as 'Unknown'

Tried to figure out why but it then went away by itself

Yea, been trying to since i started folding the other week. My laptop using a uniprocessor is doing wu's faster then my main rig using SMP.

Along with this i have also got the problem of Wu's getting to 99.99% and jumping back to around 70% complete.

It happened again yesterday, but when i checked the log, it was still uploading the wu which when done, it went away. But i have no idea why it would jump back from 99.99% to 70%. Tis a strange one

Something is not right.

Do you have a spare/old hard disk that you can do a fresh install of Windows on and then as minimum as possible before you put F@H on. See if its still doing the same

Was going to try and organise F@H on linux. as I have a mint hard drive setup.

Thats another option. Linux should give you a slightly higher PPD, or at least that use to be the case. I have not yet tried it, but there are plenty of guides around and if they arn't all that good for you if you have any problems you can ask here as there are some guys with Folding & Linux setups.

How is Linux mint working out? I tried it on Ubuntu 12.04 and I found that it won't use all off the cpu power. I am trying to get linux Mint working on an old laptop but having problems getting the stupid wireless drivers working. I think that I will get that figured out tomorrow.

Will SMP actually utilize all 4 cores on a Ubuntu 12.04 as I have a bootable USB drive with it on, just needs F@H installed on it and the running.

If not then I will just have to shut down during the night time to let the computer and my bank account rest.
