SMP-folding on an i7-2600k

There has been some questions about what you can expect from a 2600k as after stanford did some new calculation on wu`s.

I have been folding on my 2600k again for the past 2days,and this is what i came up with.

Specs:

Mobo:Gigabyte Z68X-UD7

Cpu:i7-2600k @ 4.5ghz,1.35v in bios,LLC at level7.

Ram:Corsair vengeance 8gb 1866mhz,9-10-9-27-1T at 1.5v auto.

I will hope this is informative and helpfull.

Next two days i will replace the rams with my kingston hyperx grey 2133mhz,and hopefully get some better ppd.

After i changed to 2133mhz rams.

PPD was reset and this is the result.

Around the 25k PPD is about where it should be at. depending on the WU you can expect upto 28k on normal SMP units.

Unfortunatly as you have heard things have been messed with and if you see a PPD of 14/15k all you can do is pull a grumpy face and hope for a better WU next time.

My PPD is in the 25K range when I fold with just the CPU and normally with the GPU it stays at 18 - 20K. When I left for work this morning it was on 19K and was folding a 552 point unit. When my 2600K is on a 1000+ point unit, that's when the PPD decreases by quite a margin and has dropped to 10K on occasion.

It looks like the -advmethods work units for the GPUs arn't being dished out at the moment, atleast to me. So my CPU PPD is taking an even bigger hit than usual.

Seems like if you are chaseing PPD it's a bit of a mine field at the moment. I will keep folding no matter ther PPD.

But certainly some of the fun element has been removed at the moment.

Remember when i first started a 2600k in may 2011 i was disappointed i "only" got 35k-42k ppd

Now we are lucky if it do 30k ppd

The only reason I bought a 2600k over a 2500k was for folding.

I'm hopeful that things will improve in the near future though!

There some politics in this.Evga,Hardocp and Overclock.net has an ongoing lobbyism to get most points from their hardware.One team is mostly gpu and the other cpu,cant remember which though.

Isn't it nice when those with the loudest voice ruin it for everyone else.

I can understand the rules changing for things like -bigadv. But we shouldn't be seeing such a fluxuation on 'standard' SMP units.

HPCS' average is down to 18 million from 30+ million. It looks like their PPD is being massively affected as well or will that normalize during the rest of the day.

I'm seeing wild fluctuations. One of my 470s was at 12k while the other was at 2k PPD. My CPU has been all over the board. 4GHz i7 930 been at 8k or 15k. I'm not even paying attention to the PPD anymore. I thought I was having issues on my systems, glad to see everyone is experiencing the same problems.
