Hi

I Need some advice,

I can choose between either 2 x MSI hawk 460s or a single 480, what would be the best way to go ? Probably wont be able to afford another 480 next year.

I've read plenty of reviews but still I get such a mixed feeling, is sli safe as I hear people have issues with it etc.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

460's in sli smoke the 480 outta the water then they dont use as much power or produce as much heat

Thats spot on and as an extra they are quieter too fella

I was in the same boat as you until I started asking around then I saw toms review and it was just like yep getting them now.

I have had my gtx 460s for a couple of days now and they are really good and the temps are low too. If your into overclocking too they can be pretty easily done too. Get some nice scores out of them too, if your into benchmarking or for folding

they seem solid choices i would use the 930 over the 950 but thats just me,i also would choose the xigmatek utgard over the lancool aswell.

but heyho it looks a solid build

The lancool is slightly more solid than the Utgard plus I think he wants it for the red inside.

Id actually look at the mushkin memory Ive just reviewed dude, it will blow that corsair away, yopu can also use a Noctua NH-D14 aswell so you have better overheads for overclocking

I was thinking about changing the memory, will that memory fit with the noctua ? yes it does, will learn to read before I post.

Only reason I went for the mega was down to the noctua looking damn ugly and wouldnt go with the style I was trying to get in the case.

But I guess performance should come first, well sometimes

I see that aria sell the black and it will be a while till the red is out, black it is then

I suppose to many the warnings either came too late or they chose to ignore them.

Stay well clear of the first gen 4 series cards. They were a rushed bodge job borne of true desperation.

If you want to see how a first release should be done take careful note of ATI's launch of the 5 series. Cool, fast, cheap to run right from the get go.

Tom, could you suggest an alternative to the mushkin, I don't really want to split my order up to buy from 2 suppliers due to the cost difference, everything i'm getting is from scan.

Thanks

Nope. 2 460s are superior (for games that utilize SLI) but they are also much more power hungry. 2 of them will use 50-80 watts more than one 480. Look at any 460 SLI review from the summer. Here's an example: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-460-sli-geforce-gtx-480,2694-10.html

They also produce more heat. The individual cards' temps will be lower, but as a pair, 2 460s are putting out ~320 watts of heat. The 480 is putting out ~250-275. Thermodynamics.
