Skyrim freezes ( as does the entire pc and sound )

anyone got a clue what might have caused it ?

i never had problems before ( 2 or 3 times 3 hours played easily )

now suddenly the game got stuck so did the pc and the sound had to force reboot

it can't be heat related can it ? i mean it ran skyrim perfectly before and also got stress tested in the store to check for component faillure

also it doesen't have had issues with battlefield as far as i know

now ime worried

i asked the store but the only thing he said was it might be a component overheating whilst last time they said evry component was fine , but he replied that its not compairable to playing games

that has to be wrong now ? , if it does fine during a benchmark or stresstest then surely a game won't make it overheat ?

Not sure if it will fix it but it has proven to be sucessful:

1. In Windows 7, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound
   
2. You will see your default sound device. Click it, then click properties.
   
3. Go to the Advanced Tab, make sure the default format is set to 44.1Khz 16-bit.
   
4. Hit Apply/OK, then run Skyrim.

does your fix also apply for seperate soundcards ?

Does your steam run in compatibility mode? if yes this may be a fix for you.

1. Hit start->run->regedit
   
2. Go to key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
   
3. Look for a entry with your path to steam.exe
   
4. Delete that entry
   
5. If you dont find it there try HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
   

I had similar problem with skyrim and after this everything working fine.

Like I said earlier...

I just went through that. It turns out it was a stick of dead RAM. Once I removed it, none of my games crash. Ever.

You should check your RAM with Memtest86+.

Yeah check that, and check any oc you got. Cpu/Gfx/Ram.

Just cos an oc works in one game, doesn't necessarily mean it's ok in another.

Yes, it should update automatically. Have you installed any mods at all yet?
