Hey guys
Iv got the upgrade itch

current specs are
-Dell u2711
-Asus 280x DirectCU2
- Fractal ARC mini

I really like the parvum s2.0 but may go ITX if i can find a 1155 ITX board

anything you guys would recommend upgrading to GPU-wise?

Theres not really much point in you upgrading at the moment though. The only thing really worth considering would be the 780ti or 290x at the moment, however neither of them are going to be THAT much better than your 280x. Should just try hold that itch off.

well iv just seen the bitfenix prodigy M and it looks impressive and small for an matx case. I think im going to go for that instead of buying another motherboard.

I play BF4 mostly

If you can sell your current card and get an ok amount for it the GTX 970 is a great card especially for BF4.

A work mate of mine has a reference 970 in his rig and he plays at 1440 with maxed settings with AA and has a smooth easy 60fps :)

Please note that the 970 has a memory issue, whist you are unlikely to encounter it at 1440p, just know what you are getting.

The 970 is indeed a lovely card nonetheless. You could probably find a 970 off eBay or something for a bit cheaper, as some people are offloading their 970s just because it does operate as a full 4GB card would.

is the 280x really that insufficient to merit replacing it so quickly though?

The memory issue was as per usual with the PC community, Blown way way out of proportion ^_^

Yep, I doubt it would have really effected the owners experience that much. Nonetheless they were indeed cheated, regardless of the justification. Funny how this all blew over just as predicted, yet someone didnt agree ^_^

Don't know why people were expecting Nvidia to not get away with it. It is the single handed most circle jerked company in tech. Their apology about it shows they know they would get away with it.

Anyway back on topic. Get the best you can afford once the new AMD cards come out, as that will lower prices on the Nvidia side too. No point in really getting a new card unless you're not too fussed about paying alot more for a card that'll be quite a bit cheaper in a few months time.

^^ couldnt possibly agree with you more, though its kinda a difficult decision as well, since the 390x is theoretically only going to come with a max of 4GB HBM. Nonetheless 4GB is quite sufficient for 1440p

We can't go off rumours and theories really. ;) I'd wait, even if it is just for the price drop tbh.

Yeah, I guess your right. Though it does seem to check out. Personally I home AMD is going to be able to equip their flagship with at least 8GB on release. I am mainly interested in their dual next dual gpu solution though.

+1 This

There are way to many Nvidia fan boy/girls out there, As i have said people would be up an arms if it was AMD, People love to bitch up a storm when it's AMD.

The 280X can actually manage 60 fps at 1440p in many games, even maxed out on less demanding ones.

I'd OC the card a bit and wait R9 300 series. In this way you can save a bit more money and get a better card than just a 970 ( IMHO the price of 900 series will go down after the 300s get released... and we'll probably see a card between the titan x and the 980, or a drop in price of the former )

Forgive me if I missed it. What CPU are you planning to use? I know you mention 1155. Well Celerons, Pentiums and I3s were absolute 'pone (pony AKA crap) on 1155. Their clocks were very low and because of that they bottle necked like crazy.

Mind you you mention BF4 so I would say AMD. That way you can use Mantle and leave out the CPU as much as possible.

As thus the only real contender ATM is the R9 290. They can be had for about £215 and they're very powerful cards. Had one recently and it was amazing.

The amount of vram is a rumor.. HBM was confirmed a while ago. I think what they will do is have a limited supply of 8GB models for the 390x and the rest will be 4GB. Then as yields rise they will continue to pump out more 8GB to the 390x and probably 390

Yeah I'm aware HBM was confirmed. My feeling is they'll release a 6gb (due to Nvidia's 970 having 4gb) or 4gb 390 (with a never settle for 3.5 marketing campaign, poorly timed as it is AMD's marketing team ;) ) and the 390x will be 8 or more.
