Should I try overclock my 3500+ or upgrade?

Shall I OC or upgrade the processor?

I have an AMD 3500+ Venice core and I'm wondering whether I should buy some kind of cooling and overclock, ooooor just upgrade my cpu and cooling and then overclock? I have stock cooling so it would be a must to upgrade that.

Also, should I go air, or water?

I have never overclocked b4 but I don't think it would be too hard if I learned from what you guys have posted

I vote overclock. With AM2 and Conroe following soon there is no point whatsoever buying a new setup now.

Thats chip should be a little beaut overclocking - *dreamily remembers his little 3200+ Venice* :D

Depends on your budget mate. If you have say £35-40 then air it is. If you have a little more than water can be done. Don't do things by halves though with water or you'll end up upgrading ;)

EDIT: I'll add a poll

Air all the way unless u have the budget to go all out on some good watercooling equipment. As the saying goes, the best aircooling will easily rival a pooryly thought out or cheap watercooling system.

Water must be done right... PERIOD. If you don't go all out on it, you won't notice the benefits at all.

I'm going to get a job during the summer so I should have enough money for water. I am also going to buy the dell 2405 FPW monitor because of what I read in your review so I'll be all set. If I can scrape together enough money i'll even try to get another 7800GTX 256mb because I see they're going down in price. If not I'll go with air and get the 7800.

And Conroe on some good air cooling will just straight whip ass. You may as just wait around for it to go mainstream.

Overclock.

My 3500 goes up to 2.5 and its a newcastle (130nm). I spect Yours will reach atleast 2.6 given you that your other components are up to it (I haven't checked your profile for other parts yet...)

Yea I have

the 3500+ venice

2GB of RAM (samsung M3) stock

250 GB harddrive

BFG 7800 GTX 256mb

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe

480 watt power supply

stock cooling

I have no problem with overclocking and waiting for conroe. I've always wanted to try overclocking but I didn't know whether to go for it or upgrade first.

Ya, I would say just overclock. Just cross your fingers that you don't have a dud A8N (should be fine though as long as you don't use AI Booster)

OC THE HELL OUT OF IT! I would just drop a lil on a TT Big Typhoon then wait a couple of months for conroe to settle out and see what is available, then decide whether or not to upgrade.
