Setting up a website

Have a look at the various CMS (content management systems). There are some pretty good ones that allow you alot of scope to adjust things.

Just google for cms

I have used dreamweaver before and have the program would the site be considered as a blog though coes I dont want that.

dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG editor, you can create what ever website you want with it. I'd go for a pre made one unless you have a good knowledge of xhtml and a server side/db language

theres frontpage, i think its called web developer now though. Im sure there are plenty others, have a google.

I am using wordpress on my site atm and I think you can signup at wordpress.com for a free blog. Webhosting is quite cheap tho :)

I tried loads of CMS's (drupal/joomla/xoops/mediawiki) and just got annoyed with them, so instead ended up coding stuff to integrate wordpress with a gallery etc.

My hosting costs £14.99/year and the domain is only a few £'s/year aswell :)

dont think he wants a blog matey.

Well tbh I'm doing exactly the same thing as asked about (articles/how-to's/gallery/etc) on my wordpress atm and it is a lot better and easier to manage than any of the CMS's that I've used and also seems better so far than my own news system (eqnews).

I have had 0 problems so far with wordpress

only problem i have with wordpress is that all the sites look the same

this is also true to some extent with joomla, but its getting better now

of all the CMS's ive used, joomla is my fave, but imo you cant beat coding one yourself :)

You can make your own theme for wordpress quite easy really :)

I made my own theme, but tried to make it more simple & easy to use than my old site.

I ported my old site' theme to drupal before deciding on wordpress aswell :(. (also tried joomla and what a can of worms that was. The admin panel looked like it was made by microsoft :( )

I made my own news system and have been adding & patching stuff over the last few years, but in the end I thought why bother.

I definatly cant have a blog and Id like it to be free just to start with Id consider moving to payed websites later on.

Do you want a dynamic or a static site

Stuff like wordpress can be used as a CMS easily. There are loads of articles around the net about doing it.

I think (as Dav0s said) the problem with using joomla/drupal & wordpress is that unless you know how to code php, html, xhtml & css you're probably going to be left with a site that looks the same as everyone else's :(
