Send back my P4C800-E Deluxe for a IC7-MAX3

This is just my opinion at the end of the day.

I've had 1 Max 3 mobo and about 10 Asus P4C800's (in various flavours). Granted the Max 3 is slightly faster out of the two but there's not that much in it. I had nothing but problems with mine. I could have had a dodgy board, but that was unlikely. It was a bitch to configure properly, it was a bitch to install with the mach II properly - I had to remove the mofsets etc to get it all to fit. The mobo temps were all over the shop and there was a bug with any vdimm over 2.9 - I dont know how much of this has been addressed, like I said I had one, and it was right back when they first came out. I hated it with a capital H. :) I vowed never again.

Edit: I also experienced major problems with SATA on this mobo, and I couldnt image my drives because of it.

ow that sucks, thanks for the advise dude, tbh its a lot of hassle id much rather send my mobo to some1 and get them to do it and include some beer money +money to cover the costs of return delivery and parts ;)

BUT i just am REALLY (and i mean really) worried that something in my hardware is just not up to the scratch of doing 4ghz + i cant afford my prommie yet and without it i cant cure my concenious. If i sent my mobo, CPU and ram to you phill, or Brwmogazos would you be able to do the various mods if i gave u the cash to buy the parts, fire it up on a Mach 2 and test it for me? i know its a HUGE favour but i would do anything tbh :) im not a firm belive in trusting hardware, as its let me down way to many times before, a huge thanks in advanced for just putting up with my insecuitry towards my hardware lol!

The P4C800E is abetter board than the IC7...

i had the IC7-G and i sold it to get the asus....its got better stability at high fsbs...but the ic7 is the king of mem bandwith...

hi mate

i missed your post.

i wouldnt mind doing your mods mate.

but i got an exam @ the 12th of the month + i gotta finish my dissertation.

So the prob is that i cant test your board with phase change.

i havent got my phase change system at the mo and it would be difficult to hook it up into my mach 2 when its all done.

I am running my rig 24/7 so as you understand its difficult to take everything apart.

if you could send me the gear though then yeah i could do the mods.Obviously i cant take responsibility if something goes wrong.

i just did mine a few hours ago...and it all went well...

tomorrow i am doing phils before going to work.

how i test them is by hooking them up in a PSU, air cooled and checking by measuring the vdimm and looking at the Vcore...

some fine tuning should be done with your own gear since the psu is gonna be different.:)

i entirely understand, your exams ofc take presidence, good luck in them btw, and what are they for?

I also completely understand that you cant take responsibilty for the mod. Do you and phil live local, if so i might bother him into testing my RAM/CPU/mobo with phase, its worth a try :D

thx Brwmogazos you've lifted a HUGE weight off my shoulders. I really cant wait to get a blisteringly quick setup, im just imagining a 4ghz CPU, a 6800 Ultra/420XT :D muahah :D

Me and the Greek Liverpudlian :p live a million miles away from each other mate but I dont have a problem with testing your kit if you can pay for the courier both ways.

hehe...

i got to finish my masters dissertation mate...Mechanical engineering that is.

i got a resit in the 12th of april too :p ...

keep an eye on this thread...i will post when i got some free time :)

ok nice1, so let me get this straight, first of all i send the mobo to you Brwmogazos and if i provide you the money ull do the mods for the vdimm and vcore? ull then send it back to me and then i send my ram/CPU/memory to phil with the money to send it back to me+ some beer money both ways are your both happy?

See i wanna find out how far this thing can go on 1.) my ram and 2.) any fast ram u have phil if thats ok? this way i can see wether i 1.) need to buy faster ram 2.) need to sell my CPU and buy Brwmogazos's 2.8MO which im claiming first dibs on if this SL6WK of mine dont work out properly.

Ive prolly explained in an over wordd fashion, but does it all make sense? and thanks a lot in advanced! ill wait till im paid (as i presume its gonna cost quite a bit to send arround everywhere)

EDIT: BTW Brwmogazos will you need anything but my mobo? i presume ure gonna do a lil power on texty thingy like you mentioned earlier, therefore will you require for example my ram/CPU to boot? if you do can i leave the HSF out of the package as it weighs a tonne and will put the postage right up and im poor :P

Cheers guys you rock!

I will do the mods for free.

will use my soldering iron and solder so no i dont want money for the mods...

Just send me the board with cpu and ram and i will test them with my stock intel heatsink...

I just need to find some time after i finish my dissertation to do the mods.

if you want your board to be tested under phase change cooling then you will have to send to phil :)

you guys absolutely rock, i really really really mean it! i wanna thank ferret so much to introducing me to you guys! and then ofc the whole extreme prometia comunity for hearing out all my whining and answering my EVERY question :D and Phill it was really nice to see the article on DH thanking EP and your name itself i read it and thought "wahoo its phill, i speak to him often and here he is getting a massive thumbs up from a massively read website!"
