Seeking advice for memory

Hi there,

I'm running a Q6600 (G0) on a Gigabyte GA965P-DS4 quite successfully at 9x380=3.42Ghz.

Some tests showed success running at 8x430=3.44Ghz, but the high fsb seemed to result in occasional blue screens.

Since I'm fairly satisfied with the CPU I'd like to improve my memory which is sucking big time in most benchmarks I ran.

The Corsair CM2X-6400 ram I have is specified as follows:

270Mhz: 4-4-4-13 @ 1.8V

400Mhz: 5-5-5-18 @ 1.8V

Indeed, currently it is running at fsb speed of 380Mhz with FSB : DRAM=1:1 (760Mhz) at 5-5-5-18.

As far as memory settings for Core2Duos I'm rather a noob and unsure in which direction to proceed.

I read a couple of times that the FSB : DRM ratio should be 1 for best results.

I see some memory brands advertising high frequencies (1066+) and some others advertising low latency.

I'm aware that the ram will not show a big effect on the gaming I usually do on that machine, but I have 200 bucks to spent and I want to get some memory which serves the overclocked CPU best and gives the box a nice finishing touch.

Would it be a good advice to look for some DDR2-1066 ram with a CL5 or should I rather go for 800 with CL3 (both are within financial reach)?

Or is there anything to be expected from the current Corsair rams?

Cheers,

Okay, I've tested a bit and now I have my Corsairs running at 380Mhz with 4-4-4-11 (@2.1V) with a command rate of 2T.

Prime stable as much as 20 minutes of testing can indicate.

Which seems okay to me for a rather cheapo of the shelf ram :-)

When testing the rams with Everest the accesstime was always 79ns - no matter what settings I had chosen.

Is this something that is dependend on the chips on the ram?

Or can this be improved as well by different settings?

Cheers,
