Short And Sweet Post here:

SATA optical Drives are available BUT the bandwith reqd by an optical drive doesnt even saturate the UDMA33/66 interfaces so the use of SATA is negligible --

the only use of SATA optical drives would be to improve airflow due to the thinner cables but as a general rule using a SATA optical drive will give no performance boost just use up a SATA port!

And for most people using an exta sata port means using an unlocked port which screws your overclock right in the ass. Sata legacy drives = teh gay.
