Sata and IDE - whats the difference?!

i have a 200 gig i.d.e hard drive and it seems ok, but a lot of people are going to sata because it is better? why is it???

Here are what I reckong are the differences:

1: Speed (150mbps (SATA) vs 100/133mbps (PATA))

2: Air flow (thick IDE cable vs small thin SATA)

3: Hot swappable (SATA)

4: New technology with future speed increases (probably)

I hafta say it, but at the present moment there are no performance advantages of SATA over ATA really.

The internal interface of drives hasn't exceeded more than about 100mb/s (thats on the raptors), and therefore even if you have SATA10,000 you'll still only get a max of 100mb/s throughput.

do you no whent he schedual relaase of sata 2 is going to come out, hmm also what would you need it for lol theres nothing " hardware challenging " around to need it really, and also would you need new mobo HD and ext.

Well most mobo's are already equipped with chipsets that support SATA II, all we're waiting on are SATA II devices (hd's mainly).

SATA II will help a lot when we start using flash memory hard drives... Only benefit SATA II will bring to the table with HD's is if manufacturers start making decently priced SOHO 15,000 RPM hd's.
