Sapphire Atomic HD4870x2

Sapphire has unveiled their brand new limited edition, factory overclocked version of the 4870 X2, known as the 4870 X2 Atomic Edition. This isn’t your typical factory overclocked edition video card, however, as Sapphire has really upped the ante with extra features in this bundle.

So what makes the “Atomic Edition” stand out from the pack? The feature that stands out the most is the cooling solution. Instead of opting for the typical dual slot blower-style fan, the Atomic sports a single slot self-contained water-cooling solution that also supports the CPU. Secondly, the “Atomic Edition” is also the fastest factory overclocked card on the market today, sporting an 800MHz core speed and 1GHz (2GHz effective) memory speed. But don't expect to find one of these at every mom 'n pop computer store, as the Atomics are limited.

Very limited, very expensive and very nice. But a card known to run hot (over 90°c) And a CPU all in the same loop with only a 120.1 size radiator?

Linky.

Considering the kind of CPU a graphics card like this will likely be paired with it all look rather dangerous to me.

I wouldn't trust a decent 120mm rad like a TFC X-Changer or PA120.1 to handle an 4870X2 on it's own, let alone with a CPU in the same loop.

Sapphire will have to start preparing themselves for RMA's....

What if they just let enthusiasts buy the block only with 3/8 or 1/2 barbs? Would probably skyrocket the sales compared to this package.

I agree with above, I wouldn't trust both my cpu (with a gpu like that it would probably be an i7) ánd gpu to a single 120mm rad. Wouldn't trust just my gpu with it either btw...

oh dear smooookkkiiinnnn:p:eek:

LOL

W... ow! He kept his cpu at around 55 and the gpu's cool too on a single radiator? *gasps*

Me wants :p Probably still too expensive for me though :(

Surprising results for sure. :o

Perhaps the fan its bolted to is a veritable hurricane and tornado all rolled into one. In the linked review I can only see a referance to a "60 cfm fan" which (having just checked) Is 17cfm down on a yate loon? Something isnt adding up.

Like swalesmith I'm still a tad skeptical for some reason!

Maybe the cooling solution is some sort of radioactive bio-isotope made from kitten spleens, 'cos there is sure some big voodoo going on here.
