Samsung reveals its new Odyssey G9 8K/Dual-UHD 240Hz Gaming Monitor

Nice specs but pointless for now as the GPU needed to run it properly doesn't exist yet and by the time AMD's 8000 series and Nvidia's 5000 series are both out we'll likely have an OLED version which will blow the pants off this one.

They already did! samsung is announcing 2 G9 models in CES this year, this one that is VA LCD with 4K resolution, and an OLED version, that will have 1440p resolution. Probably just a wider cut of the screen they use for the 34" variant. Additionally the OLED will have 240hz refresh rate and will apparently also be a smart monitor with Samsung's smart OS on it, altough they wasn't bvery clear on that, maybe it will just get a cut-down version of it with a few pre-selected apps.

For now, I'm just wondering how high prices will go.

The OLED version of this will be eye wateringly expensive, This I reckon will easily be around the £3000 mark.

This could be used in certain games with a 4090. Not Flight Sim or Cyberpunk, but much older games that people still love to play.

If a 4090 can run nearly all modern titles at 4k in the 120-180 fps range, which it can, then this monitor will be able to run the same games perfectly fine. It is after all not 8k, its half of 8k, or 16 million pixels. 4k= 8 mil, 8k = 32 mil
