Samsung Galaxy Note 3

for sure mate, defo the way to be, still super paranoid when getting new tech with batteries, and always do a full discharge-charge cycle once a month.

im not totally sure about the samsung battery profile but the one on my sony is totally amazing, would defo check some out, regularly get about 6-7 days full standby with 2days hefty usuage out of it. with the massive battery yours has, though driving more pixels and feeding moar horses, it would probably make a decent difference.

enjoy that beast.

Cheers dude :) Yeah I'm looking forward to getting to know it. My 64Gb card is on it's way, was supposed to be here saturday but looks like it got lost, amazon are sending me another one now :)

Should be fully up and running by the end of the week. Well chuffed :D

I got my Note 3 shortly after launch.

It's pretty decent; battery life is solid (for a smart phone - I get around 2 days on mine) and that was a big thing for me. I hated having my S3 run out during the same day.

Regarding rooting / custom rom you might want to hold fire on that. DO NOT UPDATE FIRMWARE!. Samsung threw knox into the firmware in MJ6 I think. When you root or add custom recovery knox trips to knox 0x1 - warranty now void. Irreversible at this point. Earlier firmwares are easier to root.

If you look for De La Vega method you can root with knox 0x0 (still in warranty). There is a method on XDA just surfaced called kn0x0ut so maybe look into that.

I actually like the pen, the Pen window is cool where you essentially have a desktop with resizeable apps in windows. They can be minimised to small floating circle icons too and recalled. I use X-Note rom with multi DPI and kit kat launcher.

Edit: SD card - I stuck with my ultra 32gb for now, seems fine! Never used 4K because I don't have a 4k panel in my house to view, seemed pointless tbh...

Thanks for the tips dude, tbh I'm not all that bothered about the warranty (for reasons I'm not going to say just yet).

I got a software update on the day it turned on, so I have no idea what firmware it's running, I looked in the device info and the only thing I found with MJ is in it, ends in MJ7 lol..

I only really want to root it to get rid of some of the rubbish included apps tbh, it feels like when you get a new PC from a company that has all that trialware on it.. yuck! coming from vanilla nexus android it's not nice to see but, I'll sort it I'm sure.

Glad you're happy with it SuB. I'm guessing the battery is much better than the S3, my S3 (which is on it's last day on eBay) had a shocking battery. I don't use my phone at all during the day, I can't be bothered checking FB every ten minutes, there is just no need but it would still use 30% over eight-nine hours. My Sony Xperia Z has a brilliant battery, it can go the same amount of time and use only five percent battery, although it's usually 10% now. :S

Only problem is if I go to my Sisters, for some unkown reason even though it's in my pocket, it's conneted to their Wi-Fi, it can go down to 60% over the same period of time! This happened on both the S3 and Xperia Z, the Xperia Z was immune to it for a while but it's playing that old trick now.

Yeha battery seems good, I deliberately didn't charge it lastnight, it was around half when I went to bed, and now it's turned off photo syncing with dropbox so i guess it's below around 25~30% or so. I'm going to see how far into today it gets with regular/normal usage but it's already better than my nexus.

The battery is a beast, it's easily half the weight of the phone. :)

It'll be a big ass battery in that thing! I usually charge mine at 70% (just as I go to bed) and leave it on charge overnight, but the past few days I've had it go down to about 40% then charge and I'm sure the battery doesn't hold it's charge as long, it's used 5% now, I only took it off charge at 7pm.

Shaun, try the sony battery profile, in power management, stamina mode i think, it really is amazing, after a few days using it, it adapts to the programs you use on your phone and the difference is staggering.

I'll give that a go mate cheers, I'm not keen on it not receiving texts or notifications whilst the screen is off though. :\

Did you get the update on yours on Monday? Is this Android 4.3? I'm guessing it's not KitKat yet?

Nah KitKat is 4.4 I have that on my Nexus' :) (4 and 7)

Is it any good?

I don't think we'll know when 4.4 is on our Sony, everything is made to look their own (Sony's). Not that KitKat has changed much anyway probably.

It's more of an optimisation thing tbh, feels a bit nimbler, less blue stuff, more white stuff, unifying some bad design decisions made in 4.3. I didn't get the kitkat launcher (annoyingly). more of an under-the-hood set of changes tbh.

Due to the S3 and note 3 being so slim anyway - you can often get extended batteries that come with a custom back cover to house them.

I got an official Samsung one for my S3 and I couldn't live without it now.
