Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I've got a Nexus 4 at the moment, but I'm seriously thinking about picking a Note 3 up. Anyone on here got one? Tips/Thoughts/Tricks?

Everything in the spec list is telling me yes... (it can film in 4k?!)

Would anyone disagree? (ignore the form-factor change, difference in usage scenario etc)

Cheers chaps, always good to hear your lot's experiences :P

It can film in 4K? How much space would that take up though? I'm guessing along with everything else you'd need a good SD Card?

yeah according to this

Well an SD card can be bought, that's not an issue, it was the intention anyway.

I've been looking at : Sandisk Ultra

And : Sandisk Extreme

Quite a difference in price.... Anyone shed any light on as to why? lol They're both Class 10 ?

Hmm it is quite a difference in price, I recall them releasing 'the worlds fastest' SD recently but I couldn't tell you if it was that one you've posted.

Types
Secure digital memory cards from SanDisk are split into two distinct product families: the two product lines ultra and extreme. The Ultra product moniker is used to market the Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) product. The Extreme product line features memory cards that are compliant with the Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) standard. The two SD memory product types are built in accordance with two disparate standards.

Thanks for that, however.. that Extreme card says SDXC ? not SDHC ? either way I'll get the Extreme one. might as well get the fastest one I can afford lol

Also that site looks like it's got confused... And now so am I

First thing I read said SDXC was fastest and was backwards compatible with SDXC and SDHC and SD.

SDXC is 64GB+
SDHC is upto 32GB

Now that one you've linked is the other way around?

The hexus site seems on-topic linking to the Extreme one, with 80MB/s transfer speeds...

I am confuse!!

yeah, going with the extreme 64 i think :)

Cheers. so.. back to the phablet? Thoughts?

Note 3 is a beast, ive read all the reviews and seen all the videos and yes its a beast!

BUT!!! only thing that bugs me, now i dont know if anyone else has noticed this, but with touchwiz its quite laggy with transitions that would annoy the hell out of me, i would personally root and custom rom it, but then it makes s-pen redundant!

Its a monstrous phone, just get it and dont look back ;)

No experience with the Note 3, but one question, out of ALL the handsets why that one?

Only thing that is a bit off putting to me is the size, but you might have big hands so that might not be a problem for you. My Xperia Z is like a bit too big but it's usable with one hand ish (5" display I think?) glad I didn't want for the larger version they released. If I pick up my S3 that feels so small but more comfortable.

Samsungs version of Android is nice and clean though, well they all are but it is nice to use. Is there any news on Kit Kat coming out on it, they all seem to take ages.

I watched the features video on it and it just made sit agape for 30 minutes.. Telling me all the things I want to do with it lol.

Spec list is pretty epic, storage options are great, far more than my current phone. I love my nexus4 but, I think I've outgrown it. I have a nexus 7 as well, and I like one for some stuff, and the phone for the rest really.. This would kinda, bring it all together...

I have decent sized hands, adapting to the nexus 4 from an iPhone 4s only took a day or two really so that shouldn't be an issue.

I dunno just feels more like a pro device with the stuff that I want. There wasn't a feature mentioned in the long video I found about it that I wouldn't use...

Edit: MrKambo, I think you've just tipped me over the edge :)

Gogogo!! get it now!!!

But seriously, its a very good phone, and does alot of things very well and im sure once Kit Kat is on there it'll be alot more efficient at certain tasks! at this current time of conversation i in my OPINION think its the best phone in terms of raw spec and performance, everything else is down to software! This is coming from an apple user ;)

I mean whats the worst that could happen, you get it and dont like it, sell it, lose a few quid, but thats alright because you tried it and realised it wasn't for you! that's a price worth paying than wondering for days if you should have got it over the next best device

If you want it then treat yourself. :)

Will you buying it pay as you go or contract? Just if you do it as contract you can return it within 14 days anyway, don't know if it has to be un-opened or not? Stupid terms and conditions...

extreme one has faster write times for HD video/ high res pictures.

I use a few 8GB SD in my DSLR great for the burst mode, the sd does get a little warm though ;)

I did some research and it looks like the extreme is defo the one for this phone.

I'll get one, now it's just a question of how...

works out about £640 via contract, can be had on amazon for £489... hmmm

Update:
So, it arrived yesterday, not had an awful lot of chance to play, because I am a smart person I left the Li-ion battery to charge properly overnight :) And being in the office, having a phablet and stylus isn't as sneaky as just a phone lol so yeah.

Probably gonna root it tonight, with the intention of removing some of the crappier samsung default apps, but so far it seems pretty beast :) screen is just :O lush. it's flipping, ooooge. like OOMONGUS, but it just looks superb.

Anyone else got one? Wanna share your thoughts/tips/tricks?

As far as I know, this is actually not necessary with Li-ion batteries. Think this only applied to the old, nickle-based ones :)

Dud you end up buying it on contract?

As an airsofter who uses Lipolymer batteries and takes great care of them, I always make sure a proper charge goes in first anyway. They've gotten better over the years but li-ion stuff still needs some love for the best results. (in the long term at least)

Yeah, got it through the mrs' contract in the end. :)

for sure mate, defo the way to be, still super paranoid when getting new tech with batteries, and always do a full discharge-charge cycle once a month.

im not totally sure about the samsung battery profile but the one on my sony is totally amazing, would defo check some out, regularly get about 6-7 days full standby with 2days hefty usuage out of it. with the massive battery yours has, though driving more pixels and feeding moar horses, it would probably make a decent difference.

enjoy that beast.
